This isn't baseball where you can take your time with players, like sending them to play in the minors, in order to eventually bring out their true potential. Some players just can't hack it in the NFL. Clowney is one of them.

Well that would depend on how much time it takes to get him up to speed.
I don't know how you make the assumption (cause thats all it is until now) that Clowney can not play in the NFL. When hes been on the field he done OK.
For whatever reason, he just doesn't get the plays. If he was dead wood he would have been gone, Shame we couldn't have sent him to the Browns instead of Stuckey though

No, I agree. The CS obviously has some plan for him.

And I can't agree more with the bolded.

Stuckey and Sanch seemed to gel right from the start

Obviously it was the right move, but if we had a 3 WR set of Edwards, Cotchery, and Stuckey...oh man...

I realise I'm becoming a bit of a stuck record on this, but really, you have to ask yourself why he is so cheap. You've kind of got halfway along the only logical road already, so let me complete it for you: if we are to assume that there isn't currently a collective and contagious insanity within all NFL front offices and particularly that of Denver, then we have to assume that there are reasons why they're prepared to let him go cheap and the other 31 teams aren't beating each other with shitty sticks to get him.

Every fan on here who is clamouring for his signature in exchange for Edwards, Cotchery, Washington and a range of picks (including the third that we don't have any more) seems to be focussing entirely and completely on the potential upside, which I agree is significant. What they are ignoring is his record, which puts him one step away from not just another arrest, but from jail time. The chances, therefore, of not having Marshall available whilst at the same time also not having whoever we've sent to Denver for him are way too high to be worth the risk given what's at stake for the Jets this season. We need a slot receiver, I absolutely agree. But not Marshall. Someone that talented is not necessary to enable us to win the Conference; someone that unreliable could easily be the single biggest cause for us not doing. The downsides outweigh the up.

This would be a bad, bad, bad trade simply because it's leaving too much to chance.

For a team desperate for receiver help, I don't think Stuckey gets cleaned out. After Massaquoi, he's likely their best option right now. Even if Cribbs and Robiskie make huge strides, Stuckey's in the mix.

I'd prefer to not trade for Marshall. No denying his talent, but I'm satisfied with Braylon and J. Co.

Kyle Orton is a QB who needs to throw down the field more often and rely on his checkdowns less.
Brandon Marshall is a WR whose best feature is his ability to go deep.
Brandon Marshall helped Kyle Orton add a new dimension to his game.

Mark Sanchez is a QB who needs to learn how to throw down the field less often and rely on his checkdowns more.
Brandon Marshall is a WR whose best feature is his ability to go deep.
Brandon Marshall will not help Mark Sanchez add a new dimension to his game, just cause him to rely on the one dimension the Jets are trying to get him to focus on a little less.

I'm saying Sanchez needs to throw down the field less and you present a video of him throwing down the field. You're a genius.:sarcasm:

You're making him sound a little one-dimensional, Cato. Randy Moss' best feature is his ability to go deep. Marshall? He's a big play threat anywhere on the field. He's a complete wide receiver.

    Brandon Marshall

He is also a major fucking headcase with a massive arrest record, and it's not like Schottenheimer is going to have a huge deep threat run mostly intermediate routes. Edwards can go over the middle too. Edwards deserves another year before the Jets know that he cannot improve in this offense.

OK, how about the fact that the Jets already have a #1 WR that they already gave up 2 picks and 2 players for? *12 games in a new offense? That's enough to figure it out?

Is there a rule against two potential number ones? the one thats getting open becomes the true number one? maybe it can change from game to game..

still waiting for Braylon to play like one. also if Braylon is a number one receiver what the hell is Brandon Marshall?
yeah I understand that. just itching for a great receiving corps. Arizona had 2 number ones, so the Jets can too.
