Weatherford was good...until January where he killed us outside of a good punt or 2 then of course he goes to the giants and is great in January.
I'd kill to have Weatherford back. Every time I watch the Giants I find myself wishing he never left. Malone has been mediocre since his arrival. I like his big leg, but he seems to lack the control you want to consistently put it inside the 20 or better. Punter stats can be flukey as well because having a high average doesn't necessarily mean you are a good punter, it could have more to do with how far the offense takes the ball before having to punt. The only real stat you can look at is punts inside the 20 (and even that could be higher than normal simply by punting more than other teams) and he's in the middle of the pack for 2012. The problem is that since our team punts a lot, we should be better than middle of the pack for punts inside the 20. I wish I could get a % number list for that. Looking at Malone's stats so far this year, he's just about in the same place. He's also near the top of the list for touchbacks, but again, more frequently punting does indeed bring more touchbacks. TB% would be a better indicator but I really don't feel like doing the math on that one either.
Weatherford has a heart murmur that the Giants' doctors really don't give a damn about! Me neither. What I loved most about Weatherford is he thinks he's a bad ass always running down field looking to take the punt returner's head off. How many pussy punters and kick off 'specialist' have you seen faking a tackle or flailing their arms at a guy about to take one to the house? Weatherford would lower the boom on any returner and laugh about it. Now THAT'S football!
yeah, retrospect that was a bad move on REx's part........ Weatherford admits he shit the bed in the playoffs, but still.... look where we're at now.
