I thought losing to the then 3-7 Bills coming off a bye was telling enough.

Even if we somehow sweep Miami we will lose to the Panthers and everyone else holds the tie breakers.

    It's game over man http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsx2vdn7gpY

Just end the season (and the thread too)!

Effectively over for the Jets. They'll need to win out and hope BAL, or PIT, or TEN or SD win out.

The Jets, Dolphins, Ravens, Steelers, Titans, Chargers are tied at 5-6, and the Jets have lost the head to head to 3 of those teams and have only 2 AFC wins.

    Home:
Bills, Dolphins, Patriots, Broncos, Raiders, Bears, Lions, AFC North team (Browns)?

    Away:
Bills, Dolphins, Patriots, Chiefs, Chargers, Packers, Vikings, AFC South team (Titans)?

It's a race to 9 wins and all of these teams play each other. Not over but much harder now that smith is on his amazing destruction of the QB position.

The Jets will have to win outright to have a chance. No way that will happen.

The Jets probably have a 5-10% shot at that playoff spot at this point. Losing to the Ravens really hurt but having the Steelers and Titans both get up off the mat hurt just as much.

Right now the Jets are tied in the loss column with 3 teams that hold the tiebreaker over them. They could sweep the Fins and beat the Browns and go 4-1 and the odds still favor somebody being there with them at 9-7 to spoil the party.

That loss to the Bills hurt. We'd be 6-5 and still in control of our fate.

That was the back breaker for me. To get to 9-7 I though we would win the rest of the home games and get the road win against the Bills.

Now we are looking at sweeping at home and having to win in either Miami or Carolina. The only positive I guess is that Carolina is going to have to lose eventually but I dont like our chances against them or @Miami. Unless the Jets DLine can prove something this Sunday.

We are a Geno pick away week 2 from having the same record as the Pats. Oh well.

The Jets have only beaten one team on the road this year and that team is 2-9 right now.

This just isn't a very good team. They're rebuilding. Letting the hysteria sweep over us two weeks ago was a bad thing. It made the team look like slackers now in the clutch when in fact they just aren't that good.

The saddest thing about this season is that the Jets already have two wins more than they should at this point in the season but the fans are still down on them despite the fact that they are playing way over their talent level for the season as a whole.

Nothing like watching an uplifting tale of a pauper making the best he can out of things and convincing yourself it is a tragedy.

3 of our 5 wins are against the NFC to, only 2 wins over AFC teams. Just an odd year.

That's bullshit. Expectations evolve over time. If we were 6-0 and lost our last 10 to end up 6-10 you'd have us believe that we overachieved because no one expected us to win more than 3 games.

We are permitted as fans to reset our expectations on a weekly basis.

We were much more competitive early on than we had any reason to believe and it was not unrealistic to believe/hope/dream that we could continue to be at least competitive.

The Jets offense is horrendous and we have no business being a playoff team. With that said, I think we'll beat the Dolphins and be 6-6.

The Dolphins will have 7 losses.
Either the Ravens or Steelers will have 7 losses.
The Titans play at Indy. A 7th loss is a good possibility.
... And then the Chargers host the Bengals.

If the Bengals can beat SD on the road, a win over Miami could have the 6-6 Jets sitting ahead of everyone except the Ravens-Steelers winner.

    Holy shit, the AFC sucks.

we're not done yet... but obviously our chances have slipped substantially.

I hold the thought that 4 wins gets the jets in no matter what.

each team at 5-6 will probably lose at least twice, going 8-8, we have to be the one that doesn't at 9-7 or... well its next to impossible.

they CAN make it in at 8-8, but that requires SD,TEN, BAL, PIT, and MIA losing at least 3 times. them losing twice will probably happen, any more and its a long shot for BAL, PIT, and SD especially.

the way I see it we have to hope the dolphins piss poor o-line out sucks ours and we beat them twice, that some semblance of offensive consiste- scratch that some semblance of OFFENSE at home vs the browns can go a long way, and that the raiders are the raiders.

Not thinking they'll beat the panthers in carolina, but that sure would help...

bottom line is that the jets are still in despite our moaning due to the AFC's complete suckitude (7/12 are under 500, wow) and have more home games than road ones. 4 wins were needed after the bye and they still are.

the next game is it, we lose that I'm out of hope completely, not that we would go very far should we make it anyhow.
