I think C-mart is the 2nd best jet ever behind Joe Namath. Statement

Player that best describes the Jets this decade is either Chad Pennington or Curtis Conway.

Joe Namath is not the best Jet. He was an above average QB that just happened to make a promise on SBIII and have it stick. Namath was an "icon" more than anything...

I'll echo others by saying that IMO there are 3 ways to think about it, with 3 answers as a result. If it's best player, it's Martin. If it's who defined the decade for the Jets (both good and bad), it's Pennington. And if it's who has contributed the most to the team in total over the 10 years, it's Ellis. If you separate it out that way, the answers are pretty obvious, so it's really just a matter of which definition you want to choose. Of course, for the really obvious answers on other teams (Manning, Brady), it's all three, but that's pretty rare.

I also quoted this original post only to point out that one of the guys on the list still has a shot at being a SB champion this decade (if you go by regular season rather than playoffs) - Vilma.

Ellis would be the most consistent player of the decade, but my man Curtis Martin takes a backseat to no one. Easy choice

I go with Ellis. Like many mentioned: 1) because he's been on the team the entire decade. 2) He's been a very good player 3) Curtis Martin only played half of the decade and 4) and I know this will break some hearts but Thomas Jones does absolutely everything Curtis does, except score more TDs.

Loved Curtis but always felt although he was under-rated and overlooked by the nation at large, he was also over-rated and over-appreciated by Jets fans for what he was: an above average back with a rare ability to avoid serious injuries and play well enough with the injuries he sustained to be productive.

While you may be right he didn't happen to become the league's 4th All-Time leading rusher by mistake. The rare ability to avoid serious injury needs to be considered when evaluating his over quality as a player. The life span of an NFL back so short that for him to be so productive until he finally did get injured is amazing.

not to mention he shares a record with Barry Sanders.

To call him anything under very good is ignorant.

As player of the decade I think it has to be Ellis - it's amazing that he's been with the team for the entire 10 years and is still producing.

Obviously Curtis was a better player and he deserves consideration for five 1,000-yard seasons and an NFL rushing title, but being absent for most of the second half of the decade hurts his bid.

Chad probably would have been the man if it weren't for his fragility.

I'm going to go with Revis. He's play this year is arguable the best play by any Jets defensive player in this teams history. On a better team he would be an NFL MVP candidate right now. He has been superb since he got here and is absolutely dominating the league this year.

while I agree with you entirely on Revis, his play this year alone doesn't make him the player of the decade for the Jets. However if he plays like this or even close to this into 2015, well he could easily win Jet of the next decade. Although I kind of hope Sanchez wins it hands down because that would likely mean a superbowl coming very shortly.

I thought about Chrebet, but it has to be Martin.

Curtis. He may as well have been the only name in the poll. I like Ellis, but I've thought he's underperformed way too often.

And yes, I will be attending Curtis' HoF induction.

My list would be(based on the choices):

    1. Curtis: 5 excellent years including leading NFL in rushing and finishing 2nd another time.
    2. Chad- led us to 3 postseasons, div title, led NFL inpassing once
    3. Mawae- The leader of some very good OLs
    4. Ellis- Very underrated by Jet fans
    5. Revis-if he had another year or 2 w/ us he'd be much higher
    6. Coles- some big years and big moments for us, if he never left he'd be alot higher
    7. Abe- injuries keep him from being top 3
    8. Jones- only been here 3 years or he'd be higher
    9. Chrebet- his best days were in the late 90s
    10. Vilma- if we didn't give him away he'd be much higher.
