Oh brilliant, now if you actually spent any great amount of time to look back to my Jets posts you would see that most are non-Pennington related, so try and think before you speak/type. I assure you that I don't place stock in post count, just the fact that you are new to the board. The ability to post-whore by some doesn't mean a thing to me. And by the way, 2000 posts in just about 3 years is pretty damm low by anyone's standards.

And try and convince me that I am in the minority on Chad. You mean to tell me that more than 50% of the posters on this board think that Pennington will return to the Pennington of old, and that he can lead this team better than any other option out there?

Trying to sell me a bridge too?

As bad as Collins looks right now, he's accomplished things Chad hasn't. Major things, too. He threw for 4,000 yards. He took a team to the Championship game. He took another to the Super Bowl.

Columbus was in the minority in 1492. It worked out OK for him.

Oh I know that good buddy, I was laying the sarcasm down pretty thick...

All I'm saying is that if there were a way for us to move on today and cut all ties, without the financial hit, the team would pull the trigger in a heartbeat and everyone knows that, including Chad and Driven...

The best thing right now, IMO is to hold onto chad for another year. This way we could get our qb this year or maybe in the draft and cut him loose next year.

Pennington can sit on the bench here in 2007 if he doesn't perform in 2006. Why not?:)

Man Koz, you really got beat up today in the absence of us "minorities." Tell you what, those Chad supporters do get a little hysterical at times.

Once upon a time in a land far away, actually a place in history called 2002 I believe, I held hopes that Mr. Pennington was our answer. That was long before the press conference in which reporters were told it was a "privilege" to be able to interview Jets players and before the infamous Raiders game in which they got Chad's number, discovering with glee that if they dared him to complete anything longer than 25 yards it wouldn't get done.

I like Chad, I really do. He's been a loyal guy, a pretty good leader, a team player, all the above. But no one can deny he has always lacked arm-strength. With the injuries now, who in their right mind really thinks this guy is the answer in the future?

I wouldn't put Chad Pennington on the field now until I'm sure he's 100% healed and no bullshit about it. Even then, I'm not sure how effective he will be. I have a lot of doubts today about his entire demeanor in the pocket... I'm talking his footing, his ability to get himself out of trouble, his ability to check down properly, to make something of a pass-rush instead of succomb to it, to protect the ball and even to protect his own health. His confidence has been sorely shaken and I'm nhot sure he's going to get it back. At any rate, we can no longer rely on Chad as our franchise quarterback, that's pretty obvious. Anyone thinking otherwise is looking at it emotionally and not realistically, IMO. Count me in the "minority."

It was a foolish renegotiation--He had no arm LAST year.

we made a mistake in resigning him. They should have cut all ties and take the hit! We have a ton of high draft picks; and we are going knowhere this year. Take the hit and use the new money in the CBA( when it gets done to absorb the hit). Painless! But we would be over the RAINMAKER!

If we cut him our cap situation wouldnt be anywhere near the shape we're in now... and what do you mean we have a ton of low draft picks? as of now we only have 1 in each round... please explain you thinking. We haven't traded Abraham yet, and we dont know what compensation picks we might get.

Koz is NOT in the minority by any stretch!

Time to weigh in on this. Chad hasn't been the same QB since the Oakland game back in 2002. Sorry, but when it comes to a "vertical game", leave Chad home ok? Once the league took away the short to midrange stuff and stopped biting on the playfake? Chad became ordinary real quick. Teams quickly came up with the Anti-Chad maneuver. Simply stop Martin, Stack the box and force Chad to throw longer than 10 yards. As long as the "dink and dunk" was our offense, Chad was practical. Besides that, the whining everytime he got negative press OR got injured was getting old PDQ.

I don't know why you Chad guys are pissed. Chadwick Pennington was paid $1.22mil per game for only 16 games. Hurt or not, the man got paid waaay more than most backup QB's. Thank God Herman Edwards is gone and Bradway is only a scout now. This loyalty to 2002 is disturbing to say the least. Now Chad has to earn his job instead of having it handed to him due to miguided loyalty or his cap number. Its about damn time IMO. Now if the Jets draft a QB AND bring in a Vet to challenge Chad, that would be the perfect result of all of this angst. If they revert to the old way of thinking, then they'll deserve the criticism they certainly get. Then to top it off, I'm reading posts waiting for Chad to somehow regain his 2002 "glory" after TWO shoulder surgeries. I guess the Green Koolaid still flows from the tap only now, it's gotta be 100proof. This team simply postponed the inevitable by in effect, extending Chad one year. Now we wait until 2007 for a QB with questionable mobility and no arm strength to speak of to make a comeback. Not a helluva lot to look forward to is it....

Now here's a little something for you new people to understand. EVERYBODY here has a right to their opinion and you don't have to like or agree with it. You don't get to attack the person, only their opinion. You'll find some folks are Chad fans, Some aren't. So get used to people disagreeing with you. This is TheGangGreen.com, NOT a echo chamber for FO Propaganda. We discuss the Jets and more times than not, we don't like what's going on. Its been only what? almost 4 decades now? We're happy with the new FO/CS. It represented new thinking for the first time. Now lets carry it thru instead of postponing what surely will be a messy divorce from Chad Pennington.

Coles actually came back because he wanted to play with Chad. We gave up Santana Moss for him which I'm sure everyone knows on this board.

Well said, CMan. Look, IF Chad heals 100% and IF Chad can get back to some semblance of yesteryear and IF Chad can master yet another playbook (don't forget he was having some difficulty with Heimerdinger's this year) and IF we can get Chad a decent O-line for a change, maybe, maaaayyybee he can get back to the form he once exhibited... his top form. That's a big stretch but let's just assume for the sake of argument that he comes back 100%. And then what? We go 10-6 and make the wild card?

My point is, injuries aside, it has to be abundantly clear by now that Chad Pennington is not a "franchise quarterback." He probably never was, we just all wanted to believe he was. Other teams know it. Everyone else in the NFL knows it but some of us Jets fans.

So now, it's a question of, do you want to cling to that fairytale like some sort of Aesop's Fables or do you want to realize reality and move on. I say it was a great experiment and it had it's moments and it was a lot of fun while the dream lasted, but let's move TF on now.

I dont think by this he was exactly saying that he thinks Chad was coming back but rather that Jet fans are bipolar, unappreciative fans. Us jet fans havent see much winning and Chad brought a winning attitude to this organization and quickly became the face of this franchise. He played through pain and was a great leader for this franchise. I think all this guy is trying to say, when it got off base, is that he is getting unrightfully bashed for what he has done for the team. Its not his fault that they paid him a lot, its not his fault he got injured a couple of times but many people like to act as if this is the case. He had a 21-16 record for this team, some memorable moments, 2 playoff appearances, and provided great leaderhsip for this team. The moments I will always remember from Chad are, the win vs Packers 42-17, the win vs Colts 41-0, the win vs Pats 2002 in Foxboro 31-17, the throw to Santana Moss vs the Chargers, the Eric barton interview after the Charger game when he said that he turned to Chad before their possession and said "I need u man" and Chad delievered from what would have been the goat of the century. I love chad, he is my favorite player in the league but I dont think he will ever be the same and I did want them to cut him because if we are "rebuilding mode" then we should cut him loose. Its about the Jets first, I will always remember the good times and what he did for this organization but i think we should move on. We are not gonna win a SB next year anyway so why keep him.
