You lost he when you assess Bradford as a D and Cutler as a B. Non withstanding the difficulty of even getting Bradford, if we did he would be a far better option. He has never, ever played behind any kind of a decent OL, and taken some brutal hits, while trained by a sorry OC. If he was behind the Dallas OL they would be in sole posession of first place with room to spare. Even behind our line and with our non existing secondary he would have given us 4-5 more wins simply by putting the ball on the receivers hands on time and by reading defenses like he does.

IMO it's crazy for a QB like Cutler.

No we don't know that Cutler is decent. In fact, we know just the opposite. IMO Cutler shouldn't be even remotely considered.

Not crazy? It's fucking retarded for the player in question. He has always been a disappointment. That's going to change with the Jets?

People like to hammer Romo for his playoff record. This dweeb has never played in the post season.

I would be okay with that, but it pretty much means another year without a franchise QB

The Market's not going to be there at all for Cutler's contract. Schefter reported this morning that the Bears might have to attach a pick as a sweetener just to get a team to take his contract. Something like Cutler and a 4th for a later round pick from wherever he'd wind up.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. Look around the league not every team with a franchise quarterback are winners. I'd rather build up the talent base of the team and in the mean time draft and develop young quarterbacks.

The general concensus I'm getting is that any rookie we get needs to sit for a year. It seems highly unlikely right now that we will get Mariota or Winston. Here's a highly unlikely scenario:
We prioritize getting a WR in FA. We sign Hoyer. We trade down in the draft getting a later 1st and at least a 2nd, hopefully more. Then we send our 2nd and 3rd to the Patriots for Jimmy Garoppolo who's been sitting for a year and learning from Brady and BB. Use the draft on O-line and secondary.

The Pats won't give Garoppolo to anybody in the division unless they have him assessed as unlikely to make an impact. He's the last player I'd try to trade for at this point because whatever they were willing to let him go for would be more than he was worth.

This has been obvious for awhile. The guarantees make this a buyer's market for Cutler. The question is how the contract can be restructured to make Cutler worth a positive investment by the acquiring team. I suspect he's going to go for like a 6th round pick in the end. The question is what his contract will look like at that point.

No matter which option the Jets go with there will always be positives and negatives... Lets just hope whoever is in charge can figure it out...

Schefter was reporting that the Bears might have to send a better pick with him than what they'd get in return.. Which makes it very interesting. Bears could turn some of his salary into a bonus before they trade him but I don't think that's how it's looking.

If Bears just trade him they eat 4 mil in dead money but the team that gets him upgrades their pick from say a 6th to a 4th.
I'm stealing this from Barnwell but his new team gets Cutler for 2 years, 31.5 mil guaranteed. After that it's 4 years with the salary ranging from 12.5 to 19.2 million that he can get cut anytime after those two years..unless his deal gets restructured.
31.2 million is very steep for a guy who's played how he has, but even if it's a train wreck he's gone after 2 years.
Cutler shouldn't be the Jets first choice, no way would I pass on Mariota or Winston for him but I'd consider it if we upgraded a pick instead of him actually costing us one. It's extremely rare a QB with this arm talent is available so cheap in terms of trade, not contract.
He's a very expensive alternative option. I'd say he goes to Titans or Texans first before us but we'll see how it plays out.

Edit:I sure hope the Titans or Bucs get Cutler, we'd be a lock to get one of the top two QBs.

I think picking up Cutler's contract with no changes made to it first is going to be a tough sell to any owner at this point. Nobody is going to want to potentially take on the Bear's headache at full cost.

Just a guess, but I think the Bears are paying a third of the remaining guarantees and then maybe getting a late pick back in the deal. That's what makes Cutler cost-effective for both parties. Nobody is going to pay $31.5M over the next two years just to upgrade one of their picks to a 4th round pick. Not with Cutler's recent history. $21 million for two years? Maybe.

It would be very difficult for the Jets to make a deal for Cutler while they are evaluating a new HC and possibly GM. For better or worse.

Its understandable that folks would want a new QB and Cutler is intriguing. But at best he would be a rather expensive "hold the fort" guy until the Jets can groom a new rookie.

Barring a foray into the draft, which I would support for either Mariota or Winston (nothing ventured, nothing gained), the answer for me is clear, Michael Vick. He is better than any of the potential QB's so far named and is already under contract. The big mistake was not giving him the QB job from day 1. Typical of the Jets passion for management fiascos, they went out and signed a top flight QB to sit on the bench behind an unproven second year non-success. Vick still has something in the tank and I would prefer seeing him get the job than bringing in a first (or second) string castoff from another team while we sit through another mediocre (at best) season.
