Did you happen to watch a single Patriots game last year? We played them several times in case you forgot...
You do know he's under contract right now, right. A very reasonable contract. You put out Aso type numbers for him, not me.
I can understand the argument that Cotchery would be great to have with so much turnover. Prior to his injury, he had 5 straight solid seasons for us. However, he's not starting and he's not indispensable. If it's financial, and it sure seems to be, it's a move for 2012. The only other player who would have the same effect on 2012 is Brandon Moore. Would anyone care to lose him instead?
Please, enough of this crap. Who did we lose besides Braylon Edwards, Brodney Pool, Steve Weatherford, and Drew Coleman? A starting receiver that we couldn't afford. A rotational safety that obviously didn't impress the staff enough to stick around. A punter that shit the bed in the playoffs. A rotational corner that will be replaced by Kyle Wilson and Donald Strickland - two guys that know the system. This team has tons of continuity.
They're making the sacrifices needed to field this team. Seriously, before people keep complaining, could you please look at the situation and propose an alternative?
His alternative was putting a shit ton of money into Nnamdi Asomugha. When he chose to sign in Philly, the poster you quoted lost it completely. Apparently, Asomugha was the only way this team had any chance of winning game in 2011.
He's infinitely better at this than I am, but I've always managed to look at the numbers and find some flexibility. It's just not there for 2012. He'll work some inexplicable magic, but it's awfully hard to pass up $4 million in cap space next year.
Since 1998 I have not seen a team like this. We are so used to turnover and sacrifices that the general opinion is to deal with it. Great teams do not do that. At some point people need to understand that we have a great team.
