Haha...thats what I was thinking. As a matter of fact, I had totally forgotten about him, until I saw his name. What a huge hit we took dumping him off. Nobody can replace his talent. He is simply irreplaceable.
Apparently, that is what you remember as well. Sure we sucked in December, but that was due to an injured and ineffective QB, and we still kept on putting the ball in the air, rather than the ground. You're saying our D will be worse? Your opinions generally are pretty good, but this one is worse I've seen in a long time. We plan on being a defensive unit and you're saying our D will be worse? Why exactly is that? Did we not put together a talented group of guys the last two yrs covering our needs (Jenkins, Pace, Scott, Leonhard)? Oh and the new O that you are talking about is actually a good point, not bad. Almost every team goes thru new O, or D, or Coaching staff almost every yr. Favre's O, as you put it, was a pass first O with a lot of risks involved, that too for an injured QB. If we know Favre wasn't 100%, we should have simply switched to run first since it was working. And then we would have easily gone 3-2 or even 4-1 in the last 5 games (beating SF, Seattle and/or Miami). Now we come back to that offense, except no Favre. We should be fine without him and LaverANUS Coles.
F Nugent F Mangini F Favre Dirty's Dozen will get the job done this year. They never even mentioned our soon-to be dominating D. I'm pumped for Sunday, and ready to go, but I guess I say that every Sept. 9 **LW, TJ, TR, SG, JC, DC, CS, DK,WW,BS, JD, and D
I debated including Coles, but then I remembered his drops in the Seattle game. I just don't think the drop off from him to his replacement will be that great. mid-tier? absolutely. bottom feeder? I don't think so.
Losing Coles is not going to be an issue. I've been a big fan of his since he came out in 2000 but the players we have to take his place will be more productive for the Jets than he will be for the Bengals this year. I cringed every time he took a hit last year thinking that he just wasn't going to get up. After a catch he rarely got any yac and was often just picked up and thrown to the ground by an undersized DB. I believe Coles is done as a football player. I really am a fan of his so I'm happy he was able to grab a big pile of cash from the Bengals on his way out the door.
After reading all the season predictions I cant help but wonder if this team is really going to be that bad?!? I mean SI.com has us losing to the Texans by 20 fucking points!! I suppose its due to the fact that everyone loves to hate the Jets. A week ago I was super excited to see this team on the field. Now after reading all this bullshit its kind of a downer. I would be thrilled with a 9-7 but it seems everyone else has us lined up for a 5 win season. Am I miss something or expecting too much this year?
In a nutshell Pace is gone for 1/4 of the season. Our Dline is worse this year with less depth. Leonhard is not a substantial upgrade, I don't see him as anything more than a platoon player and he is replacing a platoon player at the same position who was a very effective situational safety in the trade for Sanchez. Scott is replacing Barton, better yes but not enough better to cover the loss on the DL and Pace for 4 games and Ellis for 1 game. The assumption of course is the new scheme will make the D better. It probably will, maybe but not right away.
I think Scott is a huge improvement over Barton and Scott and Leonhard are like coaches on the field they know the system and should make the transition to the new style of defense less painful.
We traded one of our two starting Defensive ends from the last two season Kenyon Coleman along with Elam who may well be better than Leonard. We also unloaded Barton who was a very solid, tough linebacker. This group with Pace gone for 4 games is not an upgrade personal wise with last years squad which outright sucked in pass Defense. This D is going to be better based soley on scheme and different personal not better personal. Scheme is nice but at the end of the day great defenses are built around personal and execution.
key word being uninformed. he just posts the question everyone had before he played a snap in minicamp.
