i hope you are correct, but chemistry is such a huge thing. Moore was loved by his linemen and was the best run blocker. there better be a guy that makes us go "brandon who?" at the end of this season... if not, SOJ.
This is hysterical. You guys are acting like Moore was some Pro Bowl God. He's an average player not worth a $5M roster bonus.
I know, right. Look, I like Moore and think he's a good player, but let's calm down here. What if we wind up acquiring a player who's much better than Moore and takes this OL to the next level? All of this hysteria will come to naught.
It's a bad move no matter how much ppl justify it. If this becomes another pete kendall situation Tanny should be fired. Chemistry on the o-line is cruical. You saw what happened when we had clarke and clement. ughhh
And you saw what happened when they added Faneca and Woody. Yes, chemistry is always a concern, but you're talking about one guy out of five. The Jets brought in two new guys last year and they got better because the players were better. They'll fit a new guy in just fine this year.
I keep hearing about this chemistry thing people want to use as a reason not to cut players from the OL. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we had one of the better OLs in the league this year, right? And 2 players along that OL were new (Faneca and Woody). Chemistry didn't seem to be too much of a problem, did it? They have all offseason, training camp, workouts, etc to start building chemistry. Replacing ONE player isn't going to fuck up the entire chemistry of the OL. Calm down people.
No one is acting like Moore was a Pro Bowl God, I think you're overreacting a touch. People are upset because it brings back painful memories of '07 and because Moore was actually pretty solid, which is understandable. Unlike '07, however, we have all offseason to fish for a replacement rather than throwing a scrub out to the wolves. I agree this is hardly the end of the world.
That's the key difference from the Kendall situation. Pete waited until after FA and the draft to complain. At that point he knew the Jets couldn't get another new OL. And the backups we had on the roster were garbage (Clarke). So Kendall had all the leverage. At least this time we have the $$ and the opportunity to bring in a FA or pick a guy in the first three rounds of the draft. Either way the Jets are likely to find a replacement.
I just saw the Steelers released Simmons. There will be other offensive lineman available via free agency or the draft, or maybe even on the current roster. Remember they still have the same OC and he should be able to tell them what they have in house. The Jets will be fine on the OL. Really, it's the least of their problems.
Okay even so, why cut Moore though with the amount of cap space we have? Now were looking at someone like Jason Brown who will be a lot more expensive than Moore. Moore was fairly solid and cheap. You just don't cut those types of players, now we may overpay for a RG
It's unclear how much cap space the Jets have or need. And they apparently felt they could be more bang for their $6M.
If he wouldn't restructure they had no choice but to cut him. Let him become a free agent and if no one gives him a big contract we can bring him back.
Moore was a solid guy, but not worth anywhere near $6 million. He probably wanted to test the market rather than renegotiate.
Exactly....... Dreeson had a great thread proving Cimini sticks a pen in his ass and scribbles with it to create his stories.
Maybe Shotty and Callahan have some one else in mind. Maybe these guys are pushing for a few new faces. Lotsa speculation here, but regardless, there will be a new face to this team.
This Has Got To Be A Callahan Move... There is no way in hell that the assistant head coach in charge of the running game and the offensive line -- e.g., Callahan himself -- doesn't have his fingerprints all over this move. Why? Because he has agreed to stay with Ryan so his point of view will hold sway over his own turf -- that is the offensive line of scrimmage, by the way. Who knew that Robt Turner and Wayne Hunter were Callahan projects? I mean, they have to be for him to get rid of Moore and rely on one or both of them. The NYJs have something more in mind than just keeping the status quo, with all this money under the cap they're developing... I am hopeful that this is not a Ray Lewis or T-J Hoosh slush fund. What about that Cardinals' DE? What about that Weaver guy? Leonhard is not going to be so expensive. Is Foxworth worth the money? How about Greer? Well, anyway, this one surely is on to Callahan -- now, let's hope to hell that he knows what he's doing as well as everybody on the NYJ CS and FO thinks he does...
the most interesting and different take so far. If Callahan, who is one of the best OL coaches in the NFL, is adamant that these backups can be solid RTs for the running and passing game.. fine... but at the same time, was there a RT prospect in the beginning of the 2nd day that Callahan saw and said "he's a steal and a 10 yr starter?"
Jesus, I can't wait for FA to start tomorrow. I have no freaking clue what they're planning, but I'll be pissed as hell if we throw $6 million per at a guard like Dockery or Kemoeatu (sp). To everyone claiming it'll be so easy to plug someone into the spot, I refer you to our line in 2007 and say "We'll see." I hope they have something in mind, but let's not downplay the move. It's as foolish to do that as it is to imply that the $6 million was Brandon's worth as determined by the contract. He was playing for $3 million a season. His number just spiked for this one, and unfortunately, he's gone because of it.
