I don't have a problem at all. You are the one with a problem and it is one of reading comprehension, or just not bothering to read at all. When the article says "Speaking at the NFL’s annual meeting in Palm Beach, Fla., Jets owner Woody Johnson explained that the buyouts were not for financial reasons and there will not be layoffs" I know what it means, unlike you.

Your statement of "a buyout IS a layoff" is patently wrong. A buyout is a decision made by the employee - a layoff is a decision made by the employer. Do you really not see the difference?

    Woody is lying.

They had until the end of yesterday to "take advantage of the buyout"... those that didn't, their families better not trust woody's lie there

I suppose we shall see; anybody without a contract can be terminated without cause at any time but that's not called a layoff. If you have 250 people working for you, it's inevitable that there is some dead wood (no pun intended) in there. It's not a lie if the guy who always burns the biscuits gets fired.

What makes you guys so sure there will be layoffs? Everybody here is always saying Johnson is a cheapskate - why not just fire anyone he wants gone?

Cause hes afraid of the press clippings obviously

it would be odd for leadership to talk about "culture change", offer anyone who wants it the chance to leave, and then not make any changes

So many here say Johnson has an "I'm rich - I can do what I want" attitude but somehow think he could also be afraid of his image being marred so easily.

Of course changes are going to be made, who said otherwise? People leave and most will get replaced; maybe 230 can do the work that the 250 are doing today, but you can't do it with 165 if half of the 170 take the offer and they will need to be replaced. That brings in fresh blood with fresh ideas and a fresh outlook - that's culture change.

I don’t speak for others. Woody has always been concerned about what the press is reporting about him

Do you realize that you just wrote two sentences that contradict each other?

I like the idea of a clean up to support the new regime, but it feels like Woody is preparing to replace people with tech. He seems like that type of guy.

Dimwit woody always trying to copy whatever's in the news.

You don't fail as long and as hard as the jets have because of an accountant or a marketing person.

this is rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.

In most businesses, a buyout is the legal way to fire/eliminate people. My guess is that the people losing their lively hoods were not integral members of any significant Jets decisions.

That is the way proper business operate. Nothing magical about it. Way overdue. The rest is just speculative negative comments to criticize an owner they hate with a passion, no matter what he does.
This team desperately needs a change towards a winning culture, from the top down, not just for the team but for the fans that have dwelled in misery and negativity for ever.

If it is non contract employee, you can fire without offering a buy out. It's not the only legal way. Also, if these employees include our shitty analytics department or some poor things reported in Player survey, like maintenance, food, etc, it might have a positive impact. Again, I do not see anything negative for the Jets here, but there is a possibility of things getting better.
