My first impulse upon reading this is we should fire him, and overall, I'm conflicted about this. People deserve second chances, but I *really* don't like people, especially coaches in a position of leadership, who drive drunk.
If JD and Saleh are constantly talking about character and how important it is with regards to players and the organization, then the only way he can save his job is by joining an EAP and getting help. In this day and age with the amount of people who get killed by drunk drivers, if they don’t make him get help and it happens again, it will be a huge blow to the organization.
Need more info... Obviously punishment should happen at some level. But was he driving 80 mph or on the wrong side of the road, or did he have one too many and blew .0001 over? No way condoning it, but this is coming from someone who's made dumb decisions (albeit way younger) and I wouldn't be where/who I am today if it was a one strike policy.
Unless this guy is so unlucky that he got caught the first time he drove drunk, this isn't really a one strike policy. He's probably done it a bunch of times before and only now got caught.
You're right, but that's not what one strike or three strike policy means. It is about getting caught. You're definitely entitled to your opinion about DUI, just like there are people who think Watson should never play football again even though he won't be charged.
It's traditionally about getting caught, but that doesn't mean it should be. There should be a distinction between this and something like getting arrested for a bar fight, where it really is a first offense.
ROFL. Do you really think an OL coach is a millionaire? Did he pull a “do you know who I a am?” There’s a 50/50 chance the cop is a Patriots fan and it’s a setup
No wreck or injuries/fatalities lucky for him. Complete lack of judgement. The Jets will deal with him believe me. I don’t think he will necessarily lose his job but he will be fined by the NFL, reprimanded internally and probably will have to take several classes - kind of like a probation….
Not a good look but arrested doesn't mean convicted. Was it just a field test, were additional tests done (I'm presuming this happens), was there a mitigating factor. We don't know any details. I'll withhold judgement until then. He'll probably be reprimanded in any event but odds are it is a lot of fuss about very little. This is the Jets. Even in the most positive looking off seasons there's got to be some angst. Just waiting for Zach's cocaine and hookers story to hit now!
