It is all about PLAN B if we trade down. Perhaps we drop down in hopes of nabbing Cutler later, but STILL have one or two other BPA's on our board JUST IN CASE. In the event they are all gone, we could certainly trade down once again......just a thought.

Lobo---As the draft has tought us year in year out, NO SUCH THING AS A SURE PLAYER (WILLIAMS, HAWK, FERGUSON).

God, if it had been Leinart working out first all the articles would be about how we love Matt and are going to trade up to secure his signature. This isn't how it goes, we cannot pick Jay Cutler at #4, surely...

Jets taking a look at quarterback options in draft
Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 04/18/06

Jay Cutler ordered the New York strip streak at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse, but it wasn't because his dining companions in Tennessee owned New York ties ? Jets owner Woody Johnson, GM Mike Tannenbaum, coach Eric Mangini and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

"It's the steak I get when I go there," the Vanderbilt quarterback said.

After consuming the 18-20 ounce slab of beef and the meat and potatoes of about three hours in chalk talk on the Jets' new offense Sunday night, and then another hour-and-a-half or so of talk and films Monday morning, they put Cutler on the grill. The big-armed senior threw to three of his former receivers at the Commodores' practice complex in Nashville for around 45 minutes.

"I started off a little erratic," Cutler said. "We were doing some different stuff. After the first five throws, I kind of settled down. I ended extremely strong. The last 20 throws were right on point. I felt good about it. I think they were happy. They've seen me throw. I think they really wanted to see how the board work went and how I processed information more than the workout."

It was the first stop on the Jets' quarterback tour that will also reportedly include private sessions with USC's Matt Leinart today, Oregon's Kellen Clemens Wednesday and Texas' Vince Young on Thursday, with a due-diligence Reggie Bush visit at the USC stop mixed in as well.

Then the Jets can finalize their plans on whether to select a quarterback with the No. 4 pick in the draft on April 29, or try to trade up with the Saints to get Leinart at No. 2, or pass on taking a passer so high.

They may still be able to take one like Clemens or Alabama's Brodie Croyle later on if they so desire. The 29th and 35th picks also belong to them.

"I'd love to play for them," said Cutler, who comes with Brett Favre comparisons and a few rumblings about his accuracy. "There was a lot of down-the-field passing and moving the pocket around a little bit. It's going to take a strong-armed guy to play in New York with the weather and the wind and all that. So I think I fit the system."

This is the perfect smoke screen. Interview QB's. Have tons of articles of Cutler ordering N.Y Steak. Then have the rest of the GM's thinking you are sold on a QB then on april 29th A. trade down or B. Draft D'Brick or Williams. Nice

I dont have a problem taking Cutler, but i do have a problem taking him at 4. WE HAVE TOO MANY NEEDS

I still say the smart thing to do is to see who is available at 4 (draft day) and then trade down to stockpile picks

Reading all of those articles, i don't get the impression that the Jets are interested in Cutler. It sounds like all they've done is let him know what they are looking for in a quarterback. The media's job is to sometimes make something out of nothing, and this definitely sounds like it. I do agree with you about drafting him at #4.................
I also think that the entire league will force the Texans to pick and then trade Bush.
But what i am enjoying the most, is the fact that the Jets are interviewing (and scouting) the IMPACT players of this year's draft. I love the thoroughness of it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now i'm still not sure who we will pick, but if i had to bet by position i would say:

3 OL - no explanation needed here
1 DT - not enough depth at this position
2 DB - not enough depth at this position
2 WR - not enough depth at this position
2 OLB/ DE - not enough depth at this position

I dont think there is a chance in hell that the packers tke CUtler with the 5th pick in the draft. They have rodgers and it would be admitting a mistake and they wont do that.

I wouldn't mind Cutler, but we have to trade down first.

I'd rather Leinart though, and I would be pissed if Leinart and Cutler were both there at 4 and we took Cutler.

we're not getting mario williams! Might as well face it, our biggest need is qb. Why? because we have ?'s across the board, and it's the most important position on the field. Drafting ferguson would be even worse, then we'd have two capable LT's and no freaking RT. We'd be in the same situation as last year.

It would be nice to trade down AND get Cutler, but it's very risky. You can't afford to trade down past Oakland, because they're in the QB market. You also don't want to slide to a point where other teams in the QB market, like Detroit, Arizona and possibly even Buffalo, may be able trade up in front of you and steal Cutler.

If we want Cutler, we probably shouldn't be cute about it and just take him at #4. The only thing I'd consider is if San Fran wants Mario Williams and needs to leap over Green Bay to get him, or if Green Bay is convinced we will take Mario or trade to someone that does and wants to persuade us to swap picks. Past that, we'd risk losing him.

I don't think Woody went to Nashville as any part of due diligence, smoke screen or for a steak dinner..... Cutler may be the choice at 4, IF he's still there, and I'd be happy with that!

I agree as well. I don't think Woody would have made the trip unless he felt that the Jets may draft him.

I think it would be a bit of a reach at 4, but I would be ok with it.

Cutler certainly has the potential to be a top QB in the NFL...I hope we are the team reaping the benefits...

    Cutler, Cutler, Cutler Hoooo Boy
Not bad, but I would rather go in another direction....
I think there is alot of BS going on between the first 4 teams.....
Everyone says Texans goes for Bush, but they signed their RB to a long term deal. Why would Houston spend top dollar on a RB when they spent top dollar during the Off-season?
Everyone says Saints goes for Williams, but they are already set at those positions. Why would you spend big money on a dude where you already set? Saints need to keep their QB happy and with that they will probably take D'Brick. That is what they need. Forget what they want....

Titans for Leinhart makes sense, but Titans could use a RB more than QB or both equally the same.

The Jets are covering bases because they know there might be a possibilty of someone falling...

I think the Texans are hoping some team comes to them with an offer for their pick. Texans need Offensive Linemen, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade with the 5-10 draft teams to get the next best tackle behind D'Brick...To me that makes alot more sense for Houston. Get a quality tackle such as a Winston Justice and some draft picks or something...

We already have Cutler with a few years of NFL experience on our roster. His name is Ramsey. I will put my foot through my TV if we waste a 1st round pick on a QB this year. None of them are worth a top 10 pick.

Cutler has much better mobility than Ramsey...not a very good comparison.

If we take Cutler at 4, or Hill at 29, I will be depressed. :(
