I highly doubt it. He did run a bad forty, it will make scouts nervous, but I have a feeling the pro day will solidify his number one spot. He is still hands down the number one prospect in this CB class. All you gotta do is look at his game film, it isn't close in my opinion. Despite his 40. Game speed and 40 speed are two different things.
no, you throw the tape on and your remember why he's the top CB. He can bring that down on his pro day. He'll be fine. He's a top 8-13 pick. The next CB is taken from 19-25. Haden isn't dropping 10 spots because of the combine. GMs would be stupid to do that.
Revis ran a 4.5 something initially, and then ran a 4.33 you're telling me Haden couldn't do the same thing? He brings his time down .04 seconds and this little argument disappears.
Do you work for Al davis or something? I don't care what his 40 was at the combine, there could be a number of factors on why he ran a slower 40 then expected. If you just watch this kids game film, you will just know that there is no other CB in this draft that is going to soar up the board enough to surpass, Haden. Impossible.
It was just a simple question. If Haden keeps running 4.55-4.60 and becomes a top corner in the NFL, he'd be the only one with a questionable 40 time.
Joe Haden is one of the best cover corners to come out in a long time. I don't care if he runs a 4.68 like Myron Rolle did...he's still the best corner in this draft by far.
I drop Haden nowhere. The kid is an elite player, and THE elite cornerback prospect in this draft. There could be a lot of reasons that Haden didn't blister the 40, more than enough that wouldn't make me even think to move him out of the #1 place. In fact, he's still my 4th best prospect in the draft. Here's the deal about the combine and 40 yard dashes. If a guy runs really well, it's a sign that he HAS speed, what kind of speed is debatable, but speed is there. He deserves to get a little boost in his stock, but really only if that track speed makes sense when you think about his game tape. If a guy runs worse than he should, then it tells you he doesn't have track speed, but says nothing about his game speed. If the tape still shows he's a stud, then you have to question what exactly is going on. Bad form? Inexperience? Something is probably up. Here's the key to that last statement, especially when dealing with CBs in particular. The reason that elite cornerback prospects don't post bad times? Because they're all usually pretty fast. People like corner prospects that have great speed, those guys who everyone knows will run well are generally the ones who will rise to the top. That to me is a sign that something just wasn't right with Haden's 40 if those numbers are legit.
Deion was critical of Haden in the backpedal drills, specifically in his hip motion. According to Deion, Haden had trouble maintaining a center line when flipping his hips around, swerving them to the side instead of keeping them centered. Mayock more or less echoed these observations. I doubt his 40 time hurts him too much, but the way he was running that drill might denote a problem against elite WRs in the NFL. Or not. Whatever.
When it's all said and done, Haden will not be the best corner from this draft class. I have a feeling that title will go to either Wilson or McCourty. I just don't think Haden has good enough natural instincts and awareness when the ball is in the air.
