Revis should be on the list. He is best most dominant at his position and best player the Jets have ever had.
Don't get me wrong because I am a huge Revis fan and not hating on him now that he's gone (like some people here) but no way should he be up there. Maybe if he played his whole career here and had a HOF caliber career but unfortunately that's not the case.
Agreed, but if he is going to make it the bulk of the work will be done outside of the Jets so while he may be a HOF who played with the Jets if the bulk of that career was outside of the Jets I don't think that would bump him into Mt. Rushmore. We had LT for a few years and he is likely HOF bound but I wouldn't put him on our Mt. Rushmore. Favre is another. There are probably dozens of examples of similar situations, not just with the Jets.
I think he's the best player we have ever had but he's going to play too many years for another team to really be on this list.
I was wondering about this, and at first assumed that it was players that started with the Jets, but your post made me remember the obvious fact that Martin started with New England. Now I'm sort of wondering why it's Mangold instead of Mawae also.
I chose Mangold over Mawae b/c Mangold has been a career Jet and is signed long term. Mawae played 8 years for us, 4 for Seattle and 4 for Tennessee. manold is entering his 8th season for us. Both GREAT C's, all pro C's but I chose Nick b/c he is a career Jet.
Wondering, when were Snell and Boozer inducted into the HOF? They were part of a team that won a championship, that doesn't make them better than players at their position over the course of team history.
Mangold is excellent, but still is not as good as Mawae was. And stop ignoring my comment about Martin.
I agree with the three leading the voting but I can see Gastineau on this list over some of the others that are on it. If sacks were a stat his whole time on the Jets his career would even be more impressive than it was.
Wesley Walker absolutely has to be on this list. A transcendent talent with a tragic flaw. He IS the Jets.
are you trying to say I shouldn't have Curtis on here b/c I don't have Mawae? Curtis only played 3 years away from us and the finished his career here, he's only our 3rd HOF player(not counting Lott or Riggins).
So why wasn't Gastineau on the list? He was voted to more pro bowls and was voted 1st team all pro more times than Klecko in a career that was two years shorter.
I had to make some tough cuts and knowing how he quit on the team in '88 and how his teammates hated him I left him off.
I knew that was the reason..glad you admitted it...you could have also added he crossed the picketline during the strike. Still he was great.
