I never said I would prefer to lose just that I would rather lose with dignity than win without honor. I dont prescribe to the win at all costs theory. I value the process and how one acts much more the end result. Winning by cheating, winning with a team full of unlikable players and coaches or winning in some other way without honor to me is not winning it is simply disgracing yourself and worse than losing.

The most important thing I have found in life is ones reputation and how we treat each other. Very little else matters. The same principles apply to sporting contests. If a team has to sell its soul and it's principals to win it has already lost.

  2. I dont agree w everything you say here bc at the end the day everyone is out for themselves & a reputation can be driven into the ground no fault of their own solely by someone else’s malice.

That said, Im a person that holds honesty, integrity, loyalty & giving back in very high regard. But living here in new england w these jackasses who think their team is above the rules just like the actual team does has changed my perspective.

The media does everything they can to ignore & shun everything less than ethical the patriots have done. Many fans still want to think better of it. So really..what has all their corruption cost them? They subscribe to “winning trumps all” and unfortunately its been proven true.

Im tired of having our faces rubbed in the dirt by snide cheaters. Its time to win.At any cost.

What Hunt did wasn't domestic violence. He had no relationship with her at all. He pushed her in a hotel lobby while being held back by his friends she punched him in the face, he shoved one of his friends into her and she went down, he kicked her.

Basically two out of control drunks going at it. One of them happened to be a women.

Domestic violence is a controlling continuing situation. This was at best a fight and at worst assault.

Morality or not, the fans feelings need to be consistent. Those who think Mac was an idiot for not making a move should also feel, I suppose, that Andy Reid was a real dumb shit to let him go without giving him a second change, with no charges, thus severely impacting his playoff chances. So where the other 25 or so teams in desperate need of a real RB for not doing what the Browns did.
I might be the minority, but IMO, if what most Jet fans want is instant improvement from Mac, for the Jets to be competitive in 2019 and for Arnold to develop chemistry on the field ASAP, then gambling on a guy that will probabably be suspended for ten games on a team in dire strait of talent won't do two shits this year. We are not in a position to invest in long shots when we don't even have the basic pieces we need now.
There will be plenty of chances to give Mac shit, this ain't it, not because of morality, or principle but simply because of presing need.

    I want to win.

And we are going to now that we have Sam.

But when we do win, I want to win so that I can feel good about my team.

The Patriots have “6 SB” wins but no one respects that franchise outside of a few bandwagon Massholes.

I respect your point of view, but let's see what happens when we abide by it. First, say you as a hypothetical GM asked Enunwa whether he assaulted the woman (which he probably did) and he said yes. Then you'd have to cut him. (From a strictly moral standpoint, you have to get the truth out of Enunwa. Remaining ignorant isn't acceptable.) Also I think what Herndon did, endangering people's lives behind the wheel, is worse than what Hunt did. So Herndon has to go too. For that matter, Robby Anderson was going over 100 mph, running red lights, and threatening an officer's wife. If we cut Anderson as well, then Darnold has no decent pass catchers left. Oh and our DC was paying his former players to injure opponents. All the good candidates have been hired already, so there aren't any left and we'll have to put a scrub in charge of the defense. Are you willing to do all that?

I may be wrong, but I don't think the NFL would have allowed Hunt to play for the remainder of 2018. So Reid's decision to cut him affects the Chiefs going forward, but they wouldn't have had him for the playoffs regardless.

Cleveland can wait out KH suspensions...We can't so that's a fair point for Jets inaction

Like I posted before, the Browns had little to lose other than backlash over Hunts character since they already have that Bell cow Nick Chubb at RB

OTOH if Jets did get him let's remember that we are all fans ...we want to see our team win for the price of expensive admission

Is it a Teams job to be morality boosters? In a way yes ...we want our guys featured on Wheaties and Cheerios boxes ...but the bottom line is winning and unfortunately today's Superstars that you need to win to put you into the next level are hardly model citizens

Sure we could wait it out. We'd need to sign another RB as well, but we have to do that anyway. And Hunt's contract is so tiny that it doesn't matter. The biggest risk with Hunt is that he behaves himself long enough to earn a big role and a big payday and then gets into more trouble.

So, due process should not be a factor, a simple arrest is enough to blackball any player, regardless of his history and value?

So... if some broad claims Sam Darnold hit her, does Friar MacCagnan cut him immediately??? Or only if there's a video? or not at all? what do we think

I don't get why fans keep saying this about Hunt. He is going to be suspended for a long time and is a distraction. Not even talking about his off the field issues, which no one should approve of, he is just not worth it. The NFL will suspend him at least 6 games, maybe more. Much more reliable options like Bell, Coleman, and Ingram are available. They cost more, but will be available for 16 games. If Mac doesn't sign any of them, then you can question not going after Hunt.

Of course it should. I’m just speaking on Macc deciding what’s acceptable and what isn’t.

Example: Macc stays away from DV issues but was okay with Donahue’s drinking history, he had a DUI 10 days after we drafted him and then another that cause a car crash that could have potentially ended in a fatality. Donahue’s blood alcohol level was .137, Macc was essentially fine with this and kept him on the team.

To most people they look at DV and DUI differently and they are different cases but it’s the fact of what’s worthy of a second chance and what isn’t. Both deserved second chances, 1 got it with our team, the other we didn’t even give a look at.

    Make up your mind.

Here's what you said: "Macc should cut anyone with a run in with the law. At least that way I’d feel like he’s not letting personal things take precedent over building a winning team." A "run in with the law" is not a conviction, it's not even an arrest. I certainly don't believe that simply having some vague interaction with police should get anybody fired from any job. You can't have it both ways - either you want a guy fired based on charges alone, as you first said or you are willing to let the legal system allow the guy his constitutional rights before canning him, or does everyone get a "second chance" as you now say?

You seem to have some kind of axe to grind with MacCagnan about some perceived double standard that I don't see - what's the root of the "letting personal things take precedent" comment? How can you say that the GM was "essentially fine with" a player getting a couple of DWI's? Do the Jets or MacCagnan actually have a "Morality Clause" upon which this entire thread is based?

  16. This is bigger than just 16 games.i dont understand why everyone is so fixated on solely next season esp w a young player.I saw it as a long term move w low risk high reward.

This is a player who could be had for cheap much cheaper than his talent dictates who is going to come in motivated & be here for multiple years. And oh by the way he plays a position the jets suck at scouting.

Coleman & Ingram arent even in the same league as Hunt while Bell will cost 3x as much.I dint even wanna hear Ingram or Coleman.Theyre just names..nothing else.Ingram isnt even a long term move.Do we realy want short term moves just to be cheap?

This was about the future & adding a premiere talent for cheap. For the life of me i cant understand why we’re letting Mac off the hook for it.

I guess we like having a team w no good players & overpaying for lesser talents. It always seems we pass on opportunities like this at skill positions;Do jet fans not like scoring points or should we just keep drafting Defense & obsesssing over OL?

I don't think anyone would say Marshall is not at fault. He did take accountability for what he did and got the help he needed. The man completely turned his life around.

Hunt lied to team officials and the NFL about what took place. He did not take accountability for his actions and showed he only cared about self preservation not self improvement. If you can't see the difference of the actions the two took in the aftermath of what transpired its not society's issue, its yours.

The reason the NFL has a morality clause is precisely because due process doesn't matter. The NFL is all about protecting its image. The players are merely passing through. Due process doesn't matter at all in protecting one's image. The NFL has no obligation to protect a players rights when it comes to the court of public opinion.

Blackballing is another matter. That's collusion and anti-competitive. The NFL also has an exemption from anti-trust violations which is based on good faith negotiations with the players Union. Blackballing is illegal and could potentially threaten their exemption.

It's more-so about how the Jets view players that have off the field issues. I agree and it took Marshall years to finally take accountability. I am glad he did so.

Wherever Hunt lied or not, is not the point. He DID take accountability, apologized and sought professional help. At the end of the day, BOTH players should have been held accountable, and just because you have a mental health issue should not EXCUSE you for the actions you performed in the past. That was my point about society (example, person shoots up a church and they tried blaming it on mental illness). Mac should have called and talked to Hunt as RB is a need for this team, just like WR was a need when he traded for Marshall. Both players made mistakes, both owned up to it, so how come Mac was only interested in Marshall and not Hunt?
