I personally think Kerley is going to be a star with this team....He really stepped up his game towards the end, and that for rookies, is a great sign....He should not be in that list above
What happened the next week? Was that SOJ? I forgot to mention how toxic our fan base is too, and how willing they are to tear this organization apart from every direction. I often wonder if most Jets fans feel more at ease when we lose because it gives them a place to focus all of their negativity. Go ahead and jump into bed with Cimini and his ilk. Turn against Rex, the players, and the organization and pick them apart. Keep churning the front office, coaches, and players and see what kind of success that brings. You'll get precisely what you want.
Don't worry, we can pay him for the one day to retire, right after the Pats admit the huge mistake they made paying him a ton of money for someone who spent the whole season on the bench
What I mean is that Kerley does not have all of the intangibles that Cotchery had, and really Cotchery when healthy has better hands although less speed. I agree that Kerley is going to be good.
He actually knows a side of the ball better than almost anyone on the planet. That's more than you can say for most head coaches in the entire league. He has leadership skills, most coaches do not. Finding a good coach in the NFL is a very very hard thing to do; canning Rex when he hasn't even had a losing season is completely ridiculous considering he has been the best Jets HC since Weeb. If you want Rex gone, who are you going to replace him with? Cowher!? It took cowher 14 seasons to win a SB, and his career was characterized by choke jobs prior to that. Gruden? His players end up hating him, and he had one good year with a stacked bucs team. Or maybe we should blow the whole thing up and start over with a rookie HC and see how that works out for the 4th rookie HC in a row that we would be hiring.
Those teams that had a turnaround were last place teams with last place schedules. The Jets will play a 2nd place schedule next year...
The kind that put this team in the conversation with legitimate teams. This guy aims for the stars. We went from, "We almost got there, the glass is half full" to "Unless we win a superbowl, we won't be happy". He has been able to manage a team of egos and young athletes and make this team successful, regardless of what you think. This whole thing is a process. We went from being the Browns or Seahawks, to beating the Pats in the playoffs to reach the AFC championship game. Just because one player got his feelings bent out of shape and chose to act like a child when he is a GROWN MAN, doesn't mean all is lost for Rex as a head coach. Rex will handle all of this. Guaranteed. He won't sleep until he does. The guy is the best thing to happen to this team. Period.
Number one, he is a great motivator on both sides of the ball. I truly believe most players when they say he is the coach they would most like to play for. 2. Rex is a great defensive coach. He had a severe downgrade in talent and some injuries to his defense and they still mostly performed at a playoff level. Not to mention an offense that rarely could stay on the field or create a cushion. 3. Rex is obviously a good communicator, that goes with his faults of perhaps saying too much at times but I firmly believe its an asset rather than a flaw. 4. Rex has a proven philosophy and track record that defense and ball control can win big games. 2 straight AFC title games with a neophyte QB tell that story pretty well. I still believe in this guy, and he will learn from his mistakes and become more offense minded or bring someone in that better suits his philosophy. It will get better. Rex is learning on the job here. Give him a Mulligan on this 8-8 season, some of this shit was beyond his control.
People who want to get rid of Rex are even dumber than the people who want to get rid of Sanchez. Holy shit, Jets fans are dumb.
Barring unforeseen health issues, I think Kerley will be head and shoulders a better player than Cotch. And this is coming from a huge Jerricho Cotchery fan. Kerley shows more intangibles as a rookie than any receiver we have had since Coles pre-Redskins.

How many times have we seen NFL teams completely turn around their fate (+6 to +10 wins) in one season? It happens almost every year. And a lot of times you see the turnaround with minimal talent change. Shows you that coaching / chemistry / whatever you want to call (sometimes luck) it has a huge effect - especially in football. Talent gets you onto the field, but to think that it's the only difference beween winners and losers really is shortsighted. With the way the NFL schedule is done now, a last place vs. a first place schedule is only a difference of 2 out of 16 games. Also, each team changes every year so last year a #1 opponent could very well be an "easy" or at least winnable game (ie. 2010 vs. 2011 Colts).
First off I am not in favor of ditching Rex. Although I think he is in real danger next year if he cannot regain control of this team in a big way. But to play Devil's advocate - didn't Mangini get fired after a 9-7 season with a late season collapse to miss the playoffs similar to the one the Jets just managed and probably not as bad as this years. I have been a Jet fan for over 40 years and while we have not gotten to the promise land the last 14 years since Parcells have been the best.
Teams that have these types of turnarounds almost always have it after a coaching change. This year it was the 49ers.
Mangini is a terrible leader. Great at recogniing talent but a terrible leader. He lost the Jets locker room and the Browns locker room.
Agreed. Santonio backs it up on the field. All the whiny haters saying we need to cut him or trade him need to wake up. He has been our best, most clutch offensive player since he got here. It's not his fault he was targeted just once. Sanchez looked away from him during the game, and it's just a coincidence that this comes after their little argument during the week. Sanchez cares more about making a point about his hurt feelings than trying to win the friggin game. Not that it means anything, but if there's anybody who doesn't deserve to be a captain it's Sanchez. Would you follow Sanchez into a foxhole? The guy's body language is so negative all the time and his play on the field so disappointing, how can you expect guys to rally around him?
