Again too much depth at tackle. Go with Pope. We have no threats at receiver, Pope would open up the passing game
I understand that some people might think we need a TE, but the fact of the matter is Doug Jolley IS an effective receiving TE. I don't care what anybody says. I did some studying on his stats from last year and if he had been thrown to more often he could have been a REALLY good TE. He had a really good amount of 20+ yard receptions for the reception total he had... If you aren't happy with Jolley's blocking which is understandable...we do have a pretty good talent in Joel Dreesen already on the roster. He was projected by some as a 3rd round TE in last years draft, but fell to round 6. If we wanted to draft a TE it really doesn't need to be on the first day. I understand you all have different opinions and I respect them, but I think if you look at some of the other holes on the team and compare them to the TE spot it is a completely different story.
He dropped too many balls, anybody on this site can tell you that. The thing is, Coles, McCareins, and Jolley, as a group, are marginal at best. Because of the contracts we have invested in our WRs, we really cant sign another one. Our best bet is to upgrade at TE, which in itself will take more pressure off the WRs, and our QB, whoever it may be. Plus, like its been said, Schotenheimer ran a system in SD with a stud QB, RB, and TE. If we get a stud TE thats one more piece to the puzzle. True, tight end isnt the BIGGEST need on the team, but this far into the draft, Pope would be an absolute steal and upgrade the team. Our other needs can be addressed now, sure, but it would be terrible value for the pick. No other OT, OLB, or DT (at this point) is worth taking this high. I say go Pope then Mangold...
The only drop I specifically remember from Jolley was in the game against the Raiders where he was in the endzone, basically caught it, but at the last second when he was on the ground he dropped it. Your aguement about Schottenheimer is interesting, but bogus at the same time. Schottenheimer never ran the system in SD. He was the QB coach. He will probably be interested in a TE who can do it all though because he was part of a team that used a great one. Let me also say I wouldn't be UPSET with picking a TE especially one like you said that can make a difference, but I would prefer drafting the BAP for a position of need in RD2...
I would suggest two OL if there are good ones available. Maybe Jean-Gilles or Mangold or McNeil. Might want to take a flier with one of the picks on someone like Cromartie. Someone you feel can give you good value and be a playmaker but is undervalued due to some other circumsatances.
You got taken a little bit in the trade according to the chart. You should have tried to bundle 35/40 for #15 in the draft if a stud lineman or the QB is still around.
Yeah but since hes picking again 5 picks later Mangold might be there. If Mangold's gone, then take Eslinger, who I believe has around the same value as Mangold
I am assuming that the Jets will be playing a 3-4 this year so with that in mind I'd take Manny Lawson if I could be convinced of his viablity at the OLB spot. Otherwise, I'd most likely pick OLB Thomas Howard at the #35 spot. With the 40th pick I like OT Eric Winston. If he's gone then I'd take OT Ryan O'Callaghan (to play OG or RT) followed by OG Max Jean-Giles if Ryan is not available.
Ok i was thinking WR too but i just took Pope at 35. I was thinking maybe trading from 40 down to around late 40's early 50's and pick up an extra third rounder then draft Ryan O'Callaghan or Mangold at my new lower pick, and use 1 of my thirds on maybe Derek Hagan(or Sinorice Moss( he is still available) or Devin Hester) and take Taitusi Lutui with the other one.
stay away from hagan, he has butterfingers. and no way would i touch hester, his claim to fame is that he's real fast, that's about it. he actually has a worse case of butterfingers than hagan if that's possible.
Great pick:up: Id go with Mangold. Im sure theyll be some quality tackles at the top of the third round, and you can find a guard even later. Great draft so far
Keep laughing your ass off, but while you do keep in mind teams like Dallas sure wish they had a kicker like Nugent.
I still love the Nugent pick to this day. We were making one final run, we failed miserably. Now the team is being blown up, but guess what we don't have to worry about, finding a kicker/punter. Consider it the first building block of the new Jets, we just didn't know it.
Get a QB at #4. How often do you get to draft this high. If your going to blow it up and start again, start with a QB. Its a very deep OT draft!
