I'd still rather have Colt McCoy as our veteran backup, honestly.

I don't really see a point to signing him. He was awesome in Chicago for like 8 games, but Marc Trestman is a miracle worker. He even made Jimmy Clausen resemble a starting caliber QB last year.

Other than that run in Chicago he's been the definition of a journeyman

    I doubt it happens anyway.

not me. he looked better under Jay Gruden this year.

but when he was starting for Cleveland, I thought he was the worst QB in the league not named Blaine Gabbert. Even Sancho butt fumble brought more to the table than McCoy.

McCown was pretty good running chicago's spread. Think schemes people.

I'm not even going to read this thread....glad he came and left. I want NOTHING to do with McCown. He got his big money shot in Tampa and, literally AND figuratively, shit the bed big time. NOTHING to do with him...don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.

Not to mention he'd be back in the Trestman system which made him look like an NFL QB.

I prefer we draft 2 QB's each year until one emerges as a good starter.

I'm happy with it. Yes I'm a Geno fan but I'm a Jets fan first. McCown nothing but a backup so I can't get excited over him.

Don't want him. He's the luckiest guy in the world though that he was cut in this lull before FA period. Otherwise he wouldn't get this fancy tour of the league.

Remember when everyone said anyone but schotty and we ended up with sporano... i can see the same thing happening with the qb position

The problem with that philosophy is that it makes it very tough to come from behind late in games. The Jets have a pretty good defense now. They can be a winning team if they can just score some more points and stop turning the ball over. For that they need to have some playmakers on offense.

I will admit Smith is probably a better Qb for the Jets than I would be. But that's about it.

The qb situation is so bleak, that this is an upgrade for us
