I see the mock, I like rounds 2-3 but not the rest. Vernon was a good call on us picking him but I wanted nothing to do with him - I wasn't here for that though. He is very much a hand in the dirt 4-3 DE - he didn't have any moves, he just used his strength to bullrush which worried me about moving to 3-4 OLB. He also didn't have any experience in coverage which didn't worry me as much as his lack of pass rush moves or his reliance on strength to get to the QB, but when a lot of people stated saying out of all the top prospects at each position that he was by far the worst "football player" that's when I really got turned off on him. I'm still hopeful he will get his act together though. 2011? hmm. Can't say - but if we do well, the dark horse prospect is Lawrence Marsh. The whole point of a 2 year mock is to help justify some of the picks from the previous draft. For example, if I neglect to draft an ILB because I don't like any of them - and you say WTF where is my ILB - you can then see I fill that need in the following offseason.
There were a lot of short-yardage RBs and FBs that I liked in that range and some didn't get drafted so I would rather have picked one of them up than Hillis. Hillis is good but we ended up with Caulcrick who is a fine RB/FB. The guys I liked for the 7th were DE/OLBs Alex Hall and Andy Studebaker, OGs Donald Thomas and Mackenzy Bernadeau, WRs Pierre Garcon and Chaz Schilens, and RTs Brandon Keith and Geoff Schwartz. Some were taken just before our 7th, some just after.
I didn't start this thread to cause turmoil. GM....the comment above is negative in tone and starts trouble. Who cares that you said it before, I don't remember you bringing to the table. It's like a little kid having to be right...it's an immature comment. A lot of posters were totally unaware that the Jets would get a 7th Rd pick in 2010. I enjoy reading most of your posts, you bring alot of knowledge and good points of view most of the time. I knew about the 7th rd pick clause a while back, but didn't officially find out a few days ago it was for 2010. An article I read about Favre's trade, last fall, didn't clarify the specifics of the 7th rd pick.
I didn't intend to make a know-it-all statement, just that it wasn't new news and I was throwing the hint that I just might know what I'm talking about sometimes. I appreciate the semi-praise after the full on hate..
It came across that way. You know the saying....It isn't what you say, it's how you say it. It was new news to myself, I wasn't even aware it was 2010 a few short days ago. I thought it was 2009 since the trade.
I did just get post after post of hate... And attitude can get lost in translation online quite easily, which is what happened. I wasn't making a "matter of factly if you didn't know this you are stupid" statement, I don't talk down to people here unless of course I am talked to like I am an idiot first. As for the 7th, it's a great 7th to have especially for that draft. There is one WR that I really want in that draft and there is a good chance he won't even get drafted: Carlos Singleton, WR from Memphis. If someone thought Ramses Barden was a redzone target, check out Singleton: 6'8, 220 lbs, 4.55 40 - however he worked with Mike Golden who is ECU's strength coach and is also the same guy that helped Chris Johnson go from a 4.33 40 to a 4.24 40 - and with him he ran a 4.37. This past season he had 52 catches, 791 yards, and 5 TDs. In 2007 he had 51 catches, 767 yards, and 11 TDs. He is a real problem for opposing teams in the red zone, he is very athletic for a guy his size and he puts a lot of effort into his blocking. Even if he elevates his stock I would draft him all the way up to the 5th. He would be a great weapon to have for a jump ball when we need a score. There is another 6'8 WR in the 2010 draft but in my opinion he is nowhere near as good as Singleton and doesn't have half the potential. Singleton, if used properly, will be his QB's best friend in the NFL.
we apparently do get a 2nd 7th this year... but I don't know from who. I've seen one article say that we have the 201 and 211 selections. http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/02/17/new-york-jets-and-the-quarterback-is/ 1 (17), 2 (52), 3 (76), 4 (111), 5 (145), 6 (180), 7 (201, 211)
If you look at the 7th Rd, the #201 pick is Green Bay's pick, so the author probably assumed, like alot of people, the pick was for 2009.
then he is wrong?? Because I know about the 2010 pick. I'm going to go with the 2010 pick before I get confused.
