I see no reason why we can't try out a player already under contract in a new system. If he thrives, awesome. If he doesn't, he gets cut. What do we lose keeping him on the roster until training camp? At least then the CS can make a real assessment for his strengths and weaknesses and maybe use him in certain scenarios. At least this is what Rex Ryan preached. You know, that whole, playing to each player's strength and weaknesses thing-a-majiggy.
This is great news. There is no way I wanted Mangini to get this guy over a lousy 1/2 Million dollars. That should send him the message to stay TF out of our stable.
always seems to be in the tackles on special teams and is a hell of lot more worth the time then miller was.
I don't necessarily have a problem giving Smith a shot till camp, but I don't want to see him perform well enough in camp to make the team, only to have him get in the game and wet the bed. Last year, we had guys that were inactive because of roster space. We've seen Smith play like crap in games; cutting him will allow other guys with potential to have a roster spot with a chance to contribute.
This is great, Elam always shown sparks of brilliance, now Ryan can help him utilize his abilities, especially that he's a monsterous blitzer, they could use some nice saftey blitz schemes sending either Rhodes or Elam, hell yeah.
I wonder if CLE can be pricks now an re-up the offer to $1.75 million? I like Elam as a situational player. He has a nose for the ball. edit (wild speculation): Possibly part of some trade bait ? ...
I'm perfectly happy about keeping Elam. Now he has to learn something strategic so he can complement all of that great violence stuff.
This is another good signing Elam showed alot of flashes last year and can only improve under Rex Ryan.
