"The Jets biggest priority now is re-signing CB Antonio Cromartie." Say john clayton of ESPN and I couldn't agree more whether or not this offseason is a success or not depends on this move
If they're going to sign him, I hope they squeeze every single penny they can into this year's cap. Next year is already going to see some major restructuring. I would have loved Joseph. If Cro signs for $10 million, Houston will have gotten the best deal of this offseason. Either way, I really don't place #2 CB at FA money priority.
Phillip Buchanon on a short term contract. Good man corner who can play the slot and come cheaply to allow Wilson a chance to start and learn, but can also step into the #2 spot if necessary. Cap friendly move that allows us to actually commit to Wilson who, physically, is a fantastic fit for our #2.
Best guess is that the FO/CS wants to maintain continuity in the system and not break in a new CB. Too bad they waited this long and now Cro holds the advantage in negotiations so yeah, its gonna hurt to sign him financially. At least Cro will be able to meet all of his child support obligations for the next 200 years once this is done.
I think this warrants its own thread. I for one do not want to read through dozens of pages of a single free agent thread to find out information on one player. Count me as one who opposes thread consolidation. Each player deserves his own thread. I don't need to read everyone's ridiculous ideas on who should or should not be signed for pages on end. If I want to hear what's up with Cro, I want to go to one place and have it all there.
AntoniNole deserves his own thread at this point. These are desperate and slim pickings times upon us.
Thanks for the effort dude in posting. You people complaing about everything. Who wants to forward to page 98 to see this. Glad it was right there for me. Getting Holmes, Cro and Eric Smith was # 1 priority for me. Getting Plax, signing Hunter and hopefully Heap is icing. Now the Skins sign Bradshaw and the Giants don't get any LB's and its all good.
He's a good blocker and an even better receiving TE. It'll allow us to use Dustin Keller more in the Dallas Clark that Tom Moore loved with the Colts while still having a legit dual threat TE on the field.
Because unlike Harstock he can actually catch the ball and manage to not commit a penalty every other time on the field About Cromartie.. if/when he signs, the numbers are going to be huge. And everyone here is going to complain and say we overpaid, and it's not much less than Asomugha, and we should have done this and should have done that.. but I bet once the numbers really come out, it's going to be a team-friendly deal where everyone is amazed how Tannenbaum did it again and the big numbers are mostly fluff. Also, everyone has to remember Cromartie is much better than anyone else out there. Yes, Kyle Wilson MIGHT be able to step in next year, but I feel a whole hell of a lot better knowing we have Wilson AND Cro to battle these pass happy teams next year.
I think you frontload the deal for Cromartie unless you have something else big in the works. You backloaded Holmes and restructured other guys so you don't wanna screw the future for 2011.
Hope so... would piss me off to no end to pay Cro 10 mill a season... he' always either a big play waiting to happen, for us or for the opposing team. What I think will happen is he'll get a big fat guaranteed number but the contract itslef won't be more than 8 mill per season.
I don't think Cro was signing until Aso did. He's the 2nd best CB on the market (it's close btw him and Joseph but Cro's size and athleticism give him the advantage) so unless he got Aso money he wasn't signing early. He even said if there was a 72 hr exclusive negotiating period he was not gonna sign with the Jets. Of course when you have 20 million guaranteed staring at you in the face it's hard to say no lol.
I'd backload the Cromartie deal. I think Wilson is our future number 2, and if we can backload the Cro deal, we can part ways after a couple of seasons if necessary without having paid the meat of his contract.
I don't think we have a whole lot of choice. We were readying money to be moved around just to sign Nnamdi. I doubt we have much room to front load a deal for Cro.
