Last year the first and second picks weren't available. Tampa and Tennessee were trading their franchise QB's (or at least they hope franchise QBs)
We may never know the truth, but I think it would be interesting to learn if the Jets were truly trying to move up to #1, and if so, who do they covet, or if it's just part of Mac playing games with other GMs to keep them off-balance and have no idea what the Jets are going to do.
I would imagine it's more to do with simply finding out what it would take to move up, rather than playing games to keep people off balance. I would imagine those sort of antics would get tired pretty quickly and the rest of the league's GMs might then be unwilling to do a deal when the time came to actually make one. Nobody likes having their time wasted by someone who is just playing games.
If the Jets really wanted to get rid of Mo, it would've been done already. We need to re-open negotiations and see what offers were fielded for Mo.
i don't think many teams care what the jets are going to do at 20. unless it's denver watching paxton lynch, after pick 15 it's pretty much a toss up as to who goes where in this draft..
So we'll probably get nothing for Mo but a 3rd rounder when we lose him next year. How great the NFL is.
"But until then, defense is no more important than offense. If you’re prognosticating the Super Bowl winner, there are certainly better metrics than simply siding with the better defensive team. It’s not defense that wins championships. In virtually every sport, you need either a stellar offense or a stellar defense. And having both is even better." Having a "stellar" defense has gotten us where? Though I should have added "Rex's defense".
Hell nah... what makes you think that? we can try the tag n trade again next year.. maybe for a lesser value than this year.. or hopefully we have a deal done before July
At bare minimum we'll get a player in a contract year that'll cause havoc in the backfield and makes sure the d doesn't lose a step if/when Sheldon is suspended. Don't make it sound like if we can't trade him then he does is no good.
Defense (with Rex) is the reason we were winning playoff games a few years back. Defense is the reason we got back to 10 wins last year Defense is how the last few Super Bowls were won, and is the best path for us to win one. Now if your point is that you cannot have a shit offense, i agree with you. I'd love to add some youth this draft to our offense. But it's still defense that wins championships, and considering we don't have a long term answer at QB, defense is what will make the Jets tick. personally, i'm glad we are keeping the emphasis there.
Defense winning is not exclusive to Rex Ryan. Relying on your defense worked for Seattle and Denver in the last three years. And Mo's been in so many rumored offers I can't see him being a Jet in May.
I don't want to get too far off topic but defense is absolutely not the main reason the Jets won 10 games last year.
Again, the Jets have "relied" on defense forever and have nothing to show for it. We need to shift emphasis to offense and the like.
