My problem with this kind of contract is his injury history. I would definitely offer a contract like this in potential, but would have to include escalators. For Example: He has earned a paid day for 2013, and my first year would be $4 Million in base salary. My 2014 base salary would be $1 Million with an escalator from the 2013 season up to $5 Million based on 16 games. That is 250,000 per game played in 2013 ($4 Million more / 16 games). I would also offer him a signing bonus of $7 Million which would make his cap hit in 2013 5.14 Million 2014 potential 6.14 Million and so on.
