I would as well, but is our 2nd not tied up in the Sheppard deal already. Depending on playing time ect. I think the 2010 pick may go up to that high.
Again, KC used a 1st round pick to draft Bowe and if anything he's exceeded expectations. He's relatively cheap and under team control for 3 more years. Why exactly would they give him away for a 2nd rounder? If anything they will want a 1st rounder plus something else; the Jets won't get him cheaper as an emerging star than the Chiefs got him coming out of college.
It depends on how much Haley actually hates him. If it's just motivation then it will take more than a first to get him. If Haley really doesn't like the then a trade could happen for much cheaper. Remember, the Niners sent TO to the Ravens for a 4th. The Raiders sent Randy Moss to the Pats for a 4th. Hell, given the latter, I think the market dictates that Bowe cost no more than a 6th (facetious).
Why would it be blasphemy to trade Washington for Marshall? Assme he doesn't accept the 5 mill contract...
Aside from that, unless there is a really good offer on the table (like say Bowe for a 2nd rd pick) I think we should pursue the WR position next year and not this. We'll have a much clearer evaluation of the WR we have on the team, of our QB situation, of our OC situation (because Schotty could become a HC somewhere), of the talent at college level and of all the FA (or whatever the uncapped year brings). Let's not be too quick about throwing away our 1st round pick...
i was a fan of us drafting Bowe out of LSU. always loved him even in college. if we could get him for a 1st id go ahead and do it. Bowe was a playmaker even on a dispicable Chiefs team last year. Todd Haley has been bitching about him probably because hes used to having two top 10 WR's on his squad. let the stick up his ass benefit us. thing is though im not buying it, Bowe is talented, i think this might be a motivation ploy for Bowe. but if we could get either of them id go for it. Brandon Marshall is a fuckin headcase though, undoubtedly a top WR in the league on the field but with the way the rules are now hed be a liability to miss games under Gooddell's reign.
if we could get Bowe for a 2nd rd pick you pull the damn trigger. worst case scenario we end up with Cotch/Bowe being our 1 and 2 with stuckey and clowney rotating slot and the other our 4th reciever. then sprinkle in brad smith if he proves consistent. then we address front 7 depth in the 1st rd next yr. thing is, Bowe is still more proven than anyone on our roster not named Jerricho Cotchery. and thats with only a year under his belt. consider me bias since I had Bowe with a 1st rd grade coming out of LSU and i saw most of his career. the guy is legit.
And for those saying not many team can afford depth at DL and OL... well not for EVERY single position but many teams with playoff aspiration have at least 1 good backup fpr the OL and one for the DL. We currently have 3/5 of the OL already injured (and if you don't make your body right in preseason you are not going to last a whole season with no injuries) and our most important DL (Jenkins) out and with a long list of injuries. Not to mention Ellis had an operation in the offseason and is over 30. If you want to start playing running and punishing with the D our WR are fine... they are not established but they all bring different thing to the team. But you can't run the football if the OL isn't creating holes and you can't punish with you defense if no one can stop the run or keep 2 men busy...
I agree... in fact I said "unless a really good opportunity arises for us" (and Bowe for a 2nd would be) Problem is... we aren't the only team pursuing a WR... we must remember this too
yes depending on playing time. its a 5th this year we gave up. and a conditional next year. anywhere from 2nd to 4th depending on playing time. dont know the specifics tho. i believe it might be 80 percent or more of the DEF snaps and its a 2nd rd pick. not TOO sure on the exact details tho.
I understood if we let him hit FA we don't owe the Eagles nothing more... the conditional pick is only IF we decide to use the option to automatically extend his contract during the season. IF we do that then the round of the pick is determined by the playing time. There were talks about Tanny pulling a "Vilma" on the Eagles...
JETS looking to trade for a WR?? CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Jets are known for making deals in August - remember some guy named Favre? - and they're thinking trade once again. They're exploring the wide-receiver market and have held preliminary discussions with a few teams, according to NFL sources. Although he's not officially on the trading block, the biggest name on the Jets' radar is the Broncos' Brandon Marshall, who has issued a pay me-or-trade me demand. The Broncos reportedly have no interest in trading Marshall, 25, one of the top young receivers in the league, but they also said the same thing about quarterback Jay Cutler - and now he's playing for the Bears. Because of off-the-field issues, a surgically repaired hip and enormous contract demands (he's entering the final year), Marshall would be a risk for any team. But there's no denying his talent: 206 catches and 2,590 yards over the last two seasons. At 6-4, he'd be a much-needed target in the red zone for the Jets. While they consider Marshall a long shot, they're not about to summarily dismiss it. The Jets have one of the most inexperienced receiving corps in the league, the reliable Jerricho Cotchery and four other veterans with a combined total of 110 catches. The organization doesn't believe the picture is as bleak as some are painting it, but it wouldn't mind adding a proven playmaker. If the Jets do add a veteran, it probably won't be a free agent such as Marvin Harrison. Another name to watch is the Chiefs' Dwayne Bowe, a former first-round pick. He caught 86 balls for 1,022yards on an awful team last season, but he's had a difficult transition under new coach Todd Haley. He may have played his way out of the doghouse with five catches in the preseason opener, but the Chiefs are rebuilding and will move a player if he doesn't fit their long-term plans. The Giants are another team that bears watching. They have a glut of receivers, and the Jets are wondering if one, perhaps Sinorice Moss, will become available. The Jets are looking for a consistent threat other than Cotchery. Chansi Stuckey is slated to start opposite Cotchery, with Brad Smith the No. 3 wideout, but the flavor of the week is David Clowney. He caught three passes for 102yards and a touchdown in the opener. "He stepped up big-time in that game," Rex Ryan said yesterday. "I think that was huge. We all know he can do it. He's got that blazing speed. It wasn't necessarily a surprise. You guys saw it last year (in the preseason) ...but it was good for me to see with my own eyes." The receivers have been dealing with the speculation since the draft, when the Jets tried to trade up for Percy Harvin. Then came the rumors about Plaxico Burress, now an afterthought because he's reportedly facing a long suspension. Cotchery doesn't believe they need another veteran. "I'm leading these troops right now," he said. "I think we have the guys to get it done. We have some talented guys." The players and coaches are buzzing about speedster Aundrae Allison, whom the Jets acquired Aug. 5 on waivers from the Vikings. "I always call him '88 and out the gate.' He can fly," Ryan said. "I'm just waiting for them to throw him a ball. I'm like, 'You know, he's open. Eighty-eight is open again.' I'm just waiting for our quarterbacks to realize that." Ryan can talk all he wants, but GM Mike Tannenbaum has a reputation for making deals in the preseason. In recent years, the Jets have acquired Pete Kendall, Ty Law, Kevan Barlow and, of course, Brett Favre. Chances are, Tannenbaum will strike again.
correct do it this way, trade the two straight up for Bowe, and in the details state that should the #2 be sent to Philly for Sheppard, the Chiefs get a #1 the following year (2011) then do what the Saints did and resign Lito after fa begins.... then the #2 goes for Bowe...
I dont like marshalls attitude. I like what i've seen the last couple seasons from Bowe. I would target him.
Every team deals with injuries. Playoff teams have the depth to account for them. This isn't a hard formula. Sure, we could get lucky and have no injuries, but considering camp so far, and the age of guys like Ellis, chances are, we're not going to be lucky. As for "just taking injuries into account," I gave you a stack of reasons apart from injuries. If you choose to ignore them, that's on you. Great job on putting the spaces in my name too. That's pure genius. Like calling me a "fool" without calling me a fool. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do that before. Thanks for the deep insight.
I propose that someone who can't type in complete sentences gets a mandatory 7 day suspension for insulting the intelligence of anyone else.
I am quite pleased to see that it looks like Tanny is going to make a move at wideout. This will be necessary to make the team competitive. The current wr roster is mediocre at best. Make a move.
