Jennings is a young 29 year old RB. He hasn't gotten the bulk of carries for most of his career so he's got some good tread left on his tires. All the kid does is produce when he gets a chance. Solid pickup by Gmen.
idk about this.. I cant say if CJ were to have the same role as Sproles that he would less effective than Sproles. In fact if he were to play that role for the jets it might be the difference between us making the playoffs or not because of that extra element that teams would have to SERIOUSLY account for. Tennesee had a weak offense period so teams loaded up on CJ alot and their O-line was weak also. He's a 1000 yrd rusher year in and year out regardless. I also dont see how signing him would stop us from filling other holes. He's not going to make a ton of money from anywhere so this could potentially be a huge pick up BUT of course idzik is my GM.
And you think this is going to be any different with the Jets? The Jets offense is weak and our O-line isn't great either. CJ really isn't that big of a pickup. Sproles creates on his own. He doesn't need a lot of help to make plays. He'd be a big help in the receiving game for Geno. Can't say the same for CJ.
Nobody is expecting him to be the difference. The Jets run a MM WCO and they can use a speed back that has good hands out of the backfield. Look at what McCoy did with MM. It works with this offense. Johnson isn't the answer because he is past his prime but he could definitely work when used in conjunction with Ivory and Powell. This is only for the right contract however. If they throw money at him (like we both know Idz won't do) then it's like they think he is the answer. If they sign him to a smart contract that has a reasonable about of guaranteed money for a player with his ability but also includes performance incentives that make up a good amount of the money, then he isn't being viewed as the answer or the difference, he is being viewed as an element of success for the running game.
Marty has alot of tricks up his sleeve. CJ would give us that screen option MArty loved running with VICK and Shady if they load up on us. CJ still has the speed to open things up. as a receiver i wouldnt argue that CJ is better than sproles because i havent seen CJ in the passing game too often until last year. Depending on how our draft goes could determine if CJ would be a good pick up or not. Honestly DeAnthony Thomas can be used like sproles if we dont land CJ
Let me just say this about Djax. Edelman had more yards last year and his career punt return average is higher. Nobody gives a shit we didn't get Edelman. They give a shit we didn't get DJax only because he's flashy. I'd take Decker over him all day.
Well, a trade clearly wasn't going to happen. There would be a little less dead money if they waited until next year, but it still saves them this year and in effect next year as well. The thing is that you never want to have too much of your cap obligated to one position. With Maclin, Jackson, and Cooper the Eagles had $19 Million against the cap just at WR. Dropping Jackson cuts it down to about $13 million. Think of it this way, even though Jackson still costs on the cap this year, by cutting him they were able to retain two starting WR's they really like. The Cooper and Maclin deals basically guaranteed Jackson would be on his way out. They hoped he could be traded, but no one was dumb enough to shell out a pick and take on a contract as hefty as his. LeSean McCoy is what made that offense go, and now they have Maclin, Cooper, Ertz, Celek, McCoy, and Sproles as offensive weapons, along with any draft picks. Jackson was just not a value to them at that contract anymore. I think all of this stuff about how Chip Kelly is arrogant and thinks he can make anybody work in his system is the media overblowing it yet again.

The Eagles have been one of the best franchises cap-wise for most of the 2000's era, with the exception of 2011 when they heavily deviated from their norm, and paid the price. Everything about Jackson was unnecessary for the Eagles. His contract, his roster spot, his production... All of these were not necessary to the team. Why keep a player who costs $10 million + when you don't need his production and you have guys ready to take over his roster spot? You're right in that they didn't need the money in order to be able to sign players or get under the cap this year, but when you're working with the cap you never want to wait until you need money. You know why receivers are going to produce in Philly? It's because of LeSean McCoy. McCoy is the real game breaker on that offense, and defenses will stack the box every play he is in and he will even draw heavier coverage on pass plays than most RBs because of what he can do in the passing game. It's kind of like in NE, where they don't need any top tier WRs because Brady gets production out of anyone. Arguably the most well run team in the league, they play value guys around Brady because they can. The same goes for Philly, when you have a guy that makes everyone else on the field that much better, you surround him with role players, not $10 million players. I have to go back and watch some Philly games but I'll wager McCoy is the real reason Foles was able to have such a good year. Guys don't rush the passer as hard when they know he can dump it to McCoy at any time, and every QB in the league can make smart accurate throws when they aren't under heavy pressure all the time, otherwise they wouldn't be in the league. Even Sanchez looked like he could be a pro bowler behind that 2010 offensive line and running game. Some of the throws he made that year were amazing, and he didn't throw a pick for the first 5 and a half games that year.

Compare WR1 with WR2: WR1 16 games : 105 rec : 1056 yds : 66/g : 4 of 100+ yds : 6 TD : 374 PR yds WR2 16 games : 82 rec : 1332 yds : 83/g : 6 of 100+ yds : 9 TD : 71 PR yds WR1 contract is 4 years for 17 mil with 8 mil guaranteed WR2 contract is 3 years for 24 mil with 16 mil guaranteed Now, tell me which one of the two receivers and their respective contracts do you want ?
People are just addicted to big names. Sometimes you need to let a guy become a big name on your team.
we didn't lose anyone to the Giants, the Giants were willing to overpay for a guy that has been on 4 teams in 4 years and was talking retirement not long ago- we were not.
