Pinner or Shipp would be a waste of time. Tatum Bell on the other hand... get that done. Denver likes him, but doesn't think he's an every down back. Why, I haven't the slightest clue. Tatum Bell is the only back mentioned above who I'd play ahead of who we have right now.
I just watched something on espn discussing how the planned on having turner and tomlinson on the field together....and turner coming in to let tomlinson rest more and play some slot wr. Anyone who thinks SD is giving up MT is seriousley mistaken. Lets get Bell!
This is all about something called due diligence, just like the Jets scouted Reggie Bush with no cance of drafting him, it's their job to make inquiries about any RB that might be available. If Tannenbaum calls Arizona, and asks what they woukld be looking for in a trade for Shipp, it doesn't mean much... it's just due diligence. Let's say the Jets really want Turner. SD's asking price is way too high. So, you make sure that SD knows you are looking elsewhere. This is what due diligence is all about. It can help create leverage where there was none. With the silence in every other area that envelops this team.... all of a sudden every phone call to another team regarding the availability of an RB is getting leaked? Really? I think these phones calls are real, but not serious. I thinks the leaks are intentional. Staying mum on Martin is part of the plan. In some ways, this whole thing reminds me of events that happened when Abraham got traded. Tannenbaum is playing his hand here, folks. He's even using the beat reporters to his own ends. Pretty slick.
Beggers can't be choosers. Tatum Bell has flaws, but if he isn't too expensive I'd take him in a heartbeat over what the Jets have now or a veteran with little potential (like Pinner or Shipp).
