He really has always had a problem staying healthy and only played in two full 16 game seasons in his entire carrer

He's a guy with legitimate production but has been totally disrupted by injuries. Classic Idzik kind of signing. He's a bigger bodied guy who can block and function as a red zone threat.

I hope this does have any effect on " toss my Salas". It's just too much fun to call him that

worst case scenario of decker rice kerley is such a huge upgrade (potentially)than what we had last year. if we were to gointo the season with that and a chance fr a rookie to make that even better it wouldbe a pretty good turnaround from where we were

sure, sign him if the money is right. But I am not expecting a whole lot from him.

We still need to pick up a WR in the draft.

Rice would be a well timed insurance policy to allow them to operate with a clear mind on draft day, he's worth a small percentage of catches but has good size and doesn't get murdered on the LOS at the snap, he's a competition body.

No player is a waste of time if he has been productive in his career, unless he gets signed long term with a commitment.

I agree it's an upgrade, but let's not stop there, and feel content with what we have now.

    BTW all:
Top 6 WRs going into 2013 Camp: Holmes, Kerley, Hill, Gates, BRAYLON, Obomanu
Top 6 WRs going into 2014 (as of now): Decker, Kerley, Rice (?), Nelson, Hill, Ford

I just don't want the Jets thinking, hey we got Rice and Decker, we can put WR on the back-burner you know? I really believe if they can grab one of those top tier WRs in the first round it's going to turn our offense into a machine in a yr or so.

I just realized Clyde Gates is still on the roster so Rice indeed does have a roster spot available.

I think you are wasting your time sweating what the Jets may be draft-thinking after they go after a low risk medium reward player like Rice. It's not a consequential signing either way. If the right issuer falls to them in the first or second round, the guy is pounding pavement. Assuming they know what they are doing.

And if they are morons, then they will draft a bad player and deserve the heat they get for it. And probably be fired in 3 years. You're not going to change that by hoping a middling player doesn't get signed during FA.

It's a good thing all of them were signed to smart and short contracts (aside from Rice who hasn't been signed) so the most they can do is compete short term.

IF he stays healthy, I'd be pretty happy with this. This plus a drafted receiver or TE and some linemen, we are set on offense.

This is what worries me. My confidence in this staff has been growing since the off-season began, but I can't help but think, "with the 18th pick the NY Jets select a CB."

Just hoping their vision is to make this an excellent team, all around.

You got a good point about Rice.

I think you would find it hard to find any FA contract this year that can't be terminated after two years with little to no cap ramifications. Not just here but with any team.

And if they find a guy that is a small tier below Revis, and plays well immediately, how will you feel?

I'm not saying this will happen, but would that be worth it to you? There are players that I want the Jets to draft, but I do have the hindsight to realize that I have felt that way before and a completely different type of player was drafted and the guy was great.

The opposite has also happened, but it did not deter me from trying to keep perspective on the approach to the draft.

I'm not asking you to stop wanting who you want, but flexibility in outlook can be refreshing sometimes.

This would be a SOLID depth signing. He is not the game breaker we are looking for but he definitely has play making ability that we could use.

I read somewhere he had only two 16 game seasons so far in his career. In fact he is really a good red zone target who can block. That said, I will be content if we could benefit from him for around 10 games this season. I hope he signs for cheap.
