Honestly I'm not sure, he could be but he may not even be as useful as Nelson or Hill either. The only way to know is to work him out and see, but better to sign Rice than another guy who will cost way more. Just make sure it's easy for us to cut him in camp if he isn't needed. I really don't think we need to add a WR before the draft, but better a cheapo guy than DeSean Jackson or Emmanuel Sanders or anyone else available.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 1m Former Seahawks WR Sidney Rice is in New Jersey today, visiting with the Jets. Busy day for Jets... Carton nailing it so far...
He predicted Johnson would be a jet by days end and broke the story about sidney rice, meanwhile Incarcerated bobs twitter post of "Breaking News" Chris Johnson won't sign with Jets just shows you what a joke Bob really is
Miles Austin has been near worthless since weeks after he signed his long term deal with the Cowboys. Hamstrings don't stay hurt that long. If the Jets sign him some, guy will call me an "Idzik hater" five minutes later because of how much I would hate the move.
I'd have no problem with this at all. Load up on WR's. Let them compete for their spots. No automatic spots for a guy like Hill. Make him earn it.
I'd love this signing for depth but I really hope it wouldn't deter them from still going receiver in the 1st or 2nd round.
You are playing a dangerous game, if you are hoping Jordan Matthews is available with our 2nd round pick.
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer 42s The Jets are giving Sidney Rice -- coming off reconstructive knee surgery -- a physical. Could be a good value signing for New York. Feel like he's on his way to being a Jet...
There are much worse options out there to start at WR... Decker/Rice/Kerley with CJ out of the backfield is a nice look for passing downs.
Idzik has been all about competition in his pressers. Don't have a cow over this, he's a competition spot and may not even be on the roster in September. The Jets are the first team to even show him some real interest.
For all the complaining about guys we didn't sign, wouldn't you be pleasantly surprised with an Ivory/Johnson tandem paired with Decker/Kerley/Rice/Nelson and an early WR draft pick? Easily the deepest our offense has been in a while.
This is pretty accurate and it lists him as the 14th best receiver in FA this year. http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/45947/309/2014-nfl-free-agents
I prefer Lee or Cooks / Decker / Kerley / Nelson with CJ out of the backfield much more. Much better pairing with flexibility. Rice is nothing more then a possession receiver. We already have Decker and Nelson. I just feel it's a waste of time to even look at this guy - there are so many young gunners out there via draft that can provide some serious competition coming into the league. We'll have to see, I won't hit the panic button yet haha.
You can check his numbers here,he has had so many up and down seasons over the years his best one came with Farve at QB with 83 catches over 1000 yards and 8 TDs,but he hasn't come close to that since ,here's link http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/playerstats?playerId=10488
does anyone think Hill gets cut if Rice is signed and they draft a WR early? Decker Draft pick Rice Kerley Nelson
