I'm with you on this. I never thought of Grant as being anything more than a serviceable RB ... nothing special. I'm not confident with Mcknight taking handoffs, but I would like to see what the offense would look like with Greene and Powell running the ball and using Mcknight out of the backfield like LT.

I wouldn't mind this pickup at all. A mix of Grant, Greene, and McKnight is a solid backfield.

Have people totally given up on Powell already? He would not be the first RB to have a nothing rookie season but still become good. The Jets have 3 tailbacks in the fold that this regime drafted. If Ryan and company still believe in all 3, then there is no reason to add another tailback.

To be fair I have seen absolutely nothing so far in this thread to suggest that Ryan Grant is not coming to the Jets, or that it indeed is not his cousin.

    Therefore this must be true

i honestly don't think we need another RB. greene did fine last year w/ rushing over a 1000 yds w/ 4.2 yds/carry. I'm sure he'll get more touches this year w/ sparano and mcknight will do fine as he gets more experience. lets worry about RT/Safety/WR

^Greene can't carry the load by himself. Also, Greene always starts slow (which is fine bc he can carry us in the playoffs.) Need another back to compliment him.

McKnight is average (I was surprised by his receiving ability 13 receptions last season) 3 fumbles 2 lost

I don't know anything about Powell. and I don't think anyone here does.

If we are a, "ground 'n pound" team we need another proven back.

McKnight's performance against Denver showed that we can rely on him if need be. With a nice training camp this year, I think Greene and McKnight will pack a good 1-2 punch. I don't see us picking up another aging vet who's best days are behind him. Hillis at least has potential, but I dunno what kind of price we'd get.

Greene has bad ribs. He gets banged up every season and it's the ribs each time. I give him a lot of credit for playing through it this year but realistically he's going to get banged up like this every season and he's going to be useless in a year or two without ever giving the Jets the huge season they expect out of him.

The sooner they can put him in a complementary role and reduce the load the better for him and for the Jets. 65+ throws for Sanchez against the Eagles tells us that the Jets just didn't have enough backs to carry the load at that point in the season.

I tend to agree. But Ryan Grant is not the answer. He has declining skills and was never a pass catching back. If he's brought in for the vet minimum and will face competition in camp to make the team, I'd be okay with it. Otherwise, pass.

Not a fan!! Jason Snelling is a young one who would come cheap and can catch passes

I'm actually a fan of trying to get Matt Forte at this point. I know it's tough to make an investment in a runningback in the mid-prime of his career but Forte is the whole package for a ball control offense that is going to try to move the sticks consistently on the ground and off of play-action.

On the downside is the fact that Forte's carries have delined every season since the 316 his rookie year. On the upside his overall carries are still very low. There's every reason to believe that he has 1,200 carries left in him at this point, especially if he's used properly at about 240-260 carries a year.

Put Forte out there in the primary role with Greene to spell him a lot, since Forte will also be the third down back, and the Jets might get back to the critical mass they had at RB in 2009.

Santonio Holmes would look real good with Jay Cutler throwing to him and Johnny Knox playing the stretch the field role. The Jets should resolve the locker room problem the old-fashioned way: by getting some talent in return as the problem goes away.

I like Forte, but if the Jets trade Holmes in a tag and trade scenario for Forte, they would eat that 12mil accelerated cap hit for Holmes and would struggle to get Forte locked up long term, much less the other holes they need to fill.

I think were stuck with Santonio for better or worse.

The answer is t save Greene by using baker and McKnight in an HBack/RB combo. You bring Greene along slowly early, an once defenses start trying to adjust to the two extra pass catchers you start going bigger and meaner.

It's also the way they should be playing in individual game planning.
But over e season you're starting faster when defenses are heathy and finishing stronger when they tend to be banged up.

The Jets and Holmes would have to rework the deal as part of the trade process. Replace the guaranteed 2013 salary with a roster bonus due the evening of the trade that becomes guaranteed if Holmes is cut, or traded - upon approval of the deal - or if a deal is rejected by the league office.

Holmes get his money anyway that things devolve and the Jets get rid of the guarantee for 2013 if the trade is approved although the Bears now have that on the cap.

The Bears get a WR for 2012 in exchange for guaranteeing his 2013 salary immediately and they get Cutler an underneath weapon to go with the burners they have. They get a very cheap WR for 2013 at vet minimum.

The Jets give up Holmes, which helps them immeasurably in the locker-room for 2012 (no Holmes, no Plax, few problems), and get Forte at the cost of whatever it costs to sign Forte plus the 7.75 million Holmes costs them in salary and cap for 2012.

Holmes gets away from Sanchez and goes to Cutler. He gets his big payday in 2012 instead of 2013.

    Win-win for everybody.

But then we're going through the same thing again with the revolving door at receiver. If we want Sanchez to develop, we can't keep taking away his best targets. We don't really need Forte, and doing that would mean we'd need a WR as well. RB is something we can address in the draft, we don't need to break the bank on it when we have so many other holes to fill. Without fixing the offensive line, getting Forte would be pointless. If we're picking up anyone big this off season it will be a linesman, or possibly a WR. Our running game will be good with Greene and McKnight. We just need that 3rd situational guy.

Enough of the retreads, lets see if the Jets can get some one young and explosive.....forget about Gant and Jacobs.

Put Powell in and see what he can give us.....Kerley was a shot in the dark pick and it turned out well for them, start using the draft for our needs, right now RB is not a priority.
