As long as we don't over-pay I think this would be the best possible signing for us... we NEED a FS in our division.
The same Reggie Nelson that played for the JAGS? I hope things have changed since then because he SUCKED!!!!
Reggie Nelson @FS and LaRon Landry @SS sound good to me both should come on the cheap and i want no parts of Eric Smith starting back there.
Reggie Nelson should come cheap ? Hes the only safety on the market worth a shit, id expect him to get a pretty huge deal. Even with the way this market is looking right now im thinking Reggie Nelson gets over 6m/yr And Landry with all of his risks over 4, if not more.
Yesterday would you have said no way Garcon gets 5 years 42.5million? Eddie Royal gets 6m/yr ? Obv those are the redskins, but the truth is teams have all this cash and forced to spend it. Nelson is the ONLY "legit" healthy safety on the market, the only one. Teams are gonna go nuts for him.
I don't think Lowery would want to come back here... We really should never traded him in the first place...Jets did some really weird things last year
Nelson is an average safety, 6 mil a year is for legitimate all-pro safeties, Ed Reed makes about 7.2 this year and Polamalu makes about 6.5 this year just to put it in perspective. So yeah like i was saying it would be amazing if we could somehow get both, Landry shouldnt comand that much with his recent injury history.
Well with the way the real estate market is, I suppose its possible that his home up here never sold. And knowing he would be an UFA at the end of the season decided to rent down south. Time to start hoping !
We need to safeties don't care how they come one by free agency or drafting one. No way we go into the season with Smith and Leonhard chasing Gronk and Hernandez all over the middle of the field. TheJets were seriously exposed last year in the middle of the field so I'm happy they realize it and trying to address it.
If we're gonna have 2 safeties that can't cover might as well have one of them be Landry. I believe the Broncos are interested in Nelson? No way we're getting into a bidding war with a team that has $50 million in cap space. Only hope is that while pursuing Manning they neglect other team needs.
I remember reading some draftnik on this board talking about how Lowery was going to be a total 'ballhawk' as a cornerback, although it didn't pan out. Maybe they can be right about his ability at safety.
It's the best they can do...there are teams with obscene cap space and a salary floor to meet. They front load these contracts and give $3.5 million players 8-10 up front...we're not competing with that. It sucks but it's what it is. I don't know the specifics of how their deals were structured before but I'm sure guaranteeing Pace and Scott's deals for 2012 in pursuit of Nnamdi hurts right now.
He did have 2 pick 6's in 2010...granted they were against Favre and Cutler. Don't remember if he was playing the dime or safety
On the plus side if we cut Scott/Pace/Hunter/Smith next year we save around 23 million in cap space, although still have close to 5m in dead money from them
Rex Ryan showed up and Revis went from very good corner to defensive god. And Lowery from very average slot with a few snaps at safety to 2 picks 6's (from my recollection one was at slot and one was playing third safety with Smith in the box), and traded to Jax for a crate of grapefruit. Not an illustrious career, but still salvageable.
