Id give up a second rd pick for Turner. The kid is good and he's big and fast. Some people have the mind set to let the season go basically, and just wrote off the 2006 season. Why? If we can get Turner lets get him and make some magic. Im not giving up on the season every team starts off 0-0 and all we've got to do is win. Win Ugly Win Pretty however you want to do it just win. Lets get Turner. He played behind Tomlinson, and has some experience. We need that on the team even if its only a few years to atleast relate to the rookies. Curtis is leaving and Chad is worried with his own problems any leadership we can get or some guy who can help the rookies is good.
its not crazy talk, but its not an ideal situation by any means. a running back by committee means you have no running back
Houston averaged 3.7 yards a carry last season behind a makeshift offensive line when defenses knew damn well we'd be trying to run the ball. He has good power and quickness. He didn't break any really big runs but consistantly picked up tough yards. I like him a lot. Blaylock is a good change of pace, quick shifty guy who can also catch the ball out of the backfield. I think just those two could be a decent RB combo with Houston getting the majority of the carries. I don't know much about Washington, but it sounds like he could bring something to the table too. If we can get turner for a decent price I think it's a good move. When I say decent price, I think a second rounder is too much. The guy hasn't done anything in this league yet really.
I'm only giving up a 3 or 4 for Turner. We need a back, but you don't give up premium picks for a guy who has never shown he can carry the load. -X-
The steelers had running back by committee last year and it worked out pretty well. Most teams use a committee to some extent. Your use to herm running curtis into the ground
Now hears a back I can respect. Not like the Betts post. This guy is explosive and knows how to hold the ball. He has a great deal of potential to be a feature back. There is a size issue, however, Warrick Dunn proved that size doesnt neccessarily need to be a factor. I like the heart and ability in this kid and I would love to get him. He would be a great addition to Blaylock as well.
i've seen a lot of skins games, Betts is an underrated back who could start for another team if given the chance. hes got great vision and quickness.
So... a rookie we might take in the draft has proven they are an every dow NFL back? Rhetorical question. Turner is the only RB I'd be interested in of the whole lot. I'd even package the Skins' second round pick and Houston for Turner. Expensive, yes, but it's the only thing that makes sense for both teams IMO. Any one who says Houston is or isn't a potential 275 carry RB is talking out the bung hole. He hasn't been given the opportunity to prove it one way or the other. I think Houston has a 50-50 shot at being a solid, if not a good RB in a feature role. He can break tackles, take the rock in short yardage, has the same straight line speed as Blaylock (Washington is a hair faster than both) and can catch the ball out of the backfield.
ok i like the thoughts so far but lets analyze this a little more.. edge and alexander both were dangled for 2nd round picks 2 seasons ago. no one even took a bite. they are 2 of the best 4 backs in the NFL right now along with LT and LJ. theres no way we should even think about trading a 2nd round pick for this guy no matter how good he MIGHT be. turner in in his last season of his contract and i assume he will want to go somewhere else after the season because LT is the best and he is almost just as young. if the chargers want some insurance policy which is all they are looking for at RB with LT as their featured back, then we could offer houston and a 4th.. AT BEST.. no way should we part with a first day draft pick for potential. otherwise, we should just go with houston and blaylock this season and see how they do. this will allow us to assess what we even have in these 2 RBs. then we can use a high draft pick in next years draft to pick someone who can be groomed as the featured back. depending on our record this season, we could be interested in peterson, bush, or lynch. remember, we are in the rebuilding phase of our franchise and having turner wont change much for this season. we cannot even think about wasting a high pick on him..
