You are mixing apples and oranges. I never said he wouldn't listen to what people said. I said he has 100% say in what the Jets do. It isn't a democracy. There is no majority rules. He makes the decisions period. In the case of Mangini I would assume it is the same. The GM makes the decisions and will do what he thinks is best for Cleveland. He won't worry himself about and petty feelings may have towards the Jets and in truth I don't think Mangini would either. He has to win or this may be his last job and if the Jets offer the best deal he would take it in a heartbeat.
Maybe I missed this grand declaration that our HC has absolutely no say in player acquisition. Do you have a link to back this up or is it going to be one of those 'I do not recall' sources that you come up with.
So, the Broncos give up Cutler and a conditional pick and get the unproven Quinn and #52 in return? Yeah, that's not going to happen.
leon and a pick for cutler? lol thank god none of u are our gm. I'd rather go the clemens/ratliff/aigne route
but that would violate TGG credo -- all proposed trades must be lopsided and the Jets should not have to give up any quality players to get quality players in return.
I'm not sure Denver would request Leon in a trade. They now have a glut of RBs, including a few young ones that they're high on. If they were to get Leon, I'm sure one of their 1st or 2nd years (Selvin Young, Ryan Torain) would have to be released. My guess is they'd prefer a defensive player if they're not going to get a replacement QB.
Who says they would want him as a RB? Leon merits a roster spot based upon his special teams ability alone.
REALLY?? You think that Denver will accept Quinn and a pick that will likely be 50-55th overall in 2010? And they have the pleasure of giving up a conditional draft pick too? sweet dea;, Denver must be drooling all over the place in anticipation of getting screwed.
I said it in a thread a couple of weeks ago. Leon, behind that established Denver zone blocking scheme, would be an absolute nightmare for any defense to face. However, I don't think they will be trading with us in any event, so it is probably moot.
As much as I love Leon for his contributions both as a back and as a kick returner, if Denver called and said Leon and the 17th for Cutler; I pop huge wood right then and there. Thats a fucking steal.
I seriously doubt they trade Cutler for a #1 and a guy they plan to use on KOR alone. He'll obviously be in a RBBC situation as well. So, the Broncos then have the following RBs on their team: Correll Buckhalter JJ Arrington Leon Washington Ryan Torain Selvin Young Andre Hall Lamont Jordan Peyton Hillis So, they carry 8 RBs on their roster? I'd say with the addition of Buckhalter and Arrington, and how high they are on Hillis and Torain at least, they're not going to be seeking a RB in any deal for Cutler, regardless of ST play.
there's no way i would include leon in a package for cutler, i'm all for cutler but not leon. 1st rounder + any qb on our roster, 3rd or 4th round pick and a pick next yr. Take it or leave it
I think with the way the salary cap works, a low salary player like Leon Washington is more tradeable than a guy like Slowston. I'd be willing to give up 'Lectric Leon if that meant no first round pick was traded, or maybe just Leon and a first round pick. But throwing Leon in with a pile of picks could turn this into a Hershel Walker trade.
the inclusion of Leon is arbitrary, replace him with any of the Jets valuable players. the point is that Jet fans think they can get Cutler without giving up anything valuable in return and think such propositions are reasonable enough to warrant discussion. you want out Pro Bowl QB but don't want to trade anything of value in return? sure, why not, you're the Jets and we want you to get better just like your fans.
http://blog.theredzone.org/ViewItem.asp?Entry=683 Broncos looking to trade running back Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports two NFL executives say the Broncos have been asking teams if they are interested in acquiring one of their running backs. It makes sense after the Broncos signed three free-agent tailbacks: Correll Buckhalter, J.J. Arrington and LaMont Jordan. The Broncos' holdover running backs who can be had for trade: Selvin Young, Ryan Torain and Peyton Hillis
Tannenbaum made a 3-way trade 3 years ago to send John Abraham to Atlanta. The guy loves to wheel and deal, I'll give him that.
