Brodney Pool reaches deal with Jets
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 11, 2010 8:24 PM ET
Free agent safety Brodney Pool is about to become a Jet.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the New York Jets reached an agreement on a one-year, $1.3 million deal with Pool on Thursday night.

Pool has played his entire five-year career in Cleveland but wasn't tendered by the Browns. That means the Jets won't have to send any compensation to the Browns, even though Pool was technically a restricted free agent.

Pool has suffered multiple concussions, and after his latest concussion cut short his 2009 season, there was talk that it could end his career. But Pool was given a clean bill of health in February.

In addition to the Jets, teams that showed an interest in Pool included the Rams and Buccaneers.

Wohoo :) One less thing to worry about in the draft... a rotation of Smith and Pool (one is better vs the run, one vs the pass) at FS will get things done... with Ihedigbo coming in to blitz and kill some people :)

At the moment at DB we have (that I like)...

CB: Revis, Cromartie, Lowery, Cole (as a 6th and ST guy)

S: Leonhard, Pool, E. Smith, Ihedigbo

Considering Lowery can also fit in at FS if needed I think we are 1 corner away rom having an extremely solid secondary...

  6. Great post and I'm in agreement.

Don't underestimate Poole...he's a VERY talented player. I think if we can get another speedy nickel back type for slot match-ups that expose Lowery, we'll be in very good shape.

The concussion thing is scary though. That isn't something that heals like a leg injury or something. His bell only has to be rung once and he is done. It is a cheap stop gap signing. It is what it is. If he stays healthy it is a home run, that is a giant if.

yeah we just need to draft a fast cb in the middle rounds who can also return kicks/punts and we will be set in the secondary

    Jets Sign FS Pool

It was reported by ESPN 1 year 1.3 million. He has had a few concussions and might be one away from retirement.

I read it in the thread and was gonna suggest either a title change or a new thread. This took care of it.

I don't think that angry clown in your avatar would take kindly to your whining.

BTW you think I should make one too?

However if he's put in to handle the passing game with E. Smith handling the running one he should be less subject to big hits to the head... hopefully of course.

Haha, you know what? This was the first time I ever had Jets news first, so I was protecting my property.

As for the avatar, I'm always in favor of clowns. I love them, and most people fear them like the plague. The only problem is I won't see them. I don't even see my own.

I agree. It's a great signing at the price and the one year deal seems to indicate we'll be drafting a safety to learn. I like the rotation we have there now.

Agree with Mambo, too, that Pool would best be used in mostly passing situations.

i think they need to add another coverage guy at some point. nothing big, maybe a late rounder or even an unsigned guy. i do not want to see eric smith in coverage if this guy goes down.
