We need to abandon the 3-4 as our main front and get a true NT that can plug up the middle with D-Rob. Then we need to bring in a pass rushing DE to play opposite Ellis.

Otherwise, we'll probably have D-Rob and Ellis on the ends and a true NT in the middle, but all our sacks will mean sacrificing coverage as we'll have to send Safeties and LBs for pressure.

I will ask the same question Cman asked before, why do we HAVE to give him up? It is possible to get a NT without having to trade up a ridiculous amount to get one. Vilma is a player who has played his 1st year in this system, he doesn't hurt our image off the field, he is only 24, not 30, 24! We should be trying to build around our young good players, not trade them away when they may not even be in their prime, that is what bad teams do, which is why you wonder why some bad teams had the great players but never used them but instead got basically nothing for them like Farve while he was in Atl

We don't have to give to give up Vilma, but it is possible that a player who may be of lesser talent than Vilma may be equally capable as Vilma playing in a 3-4 with an above average nose tackle who can do damage under both circumstances. I don't really have an opinion either way as I prefer to see things unfold, but the FO has put an emphasis on player value and the value of the draft pick. So thinking in those terms, I can't be so closeminded to the idea.

Sorry you still DO NOT get it. The question is once more what DO WE DO with JV IF WE DO NOT OBTAIN THE MASSIVE, SUPER, QUALITY NT that some of you think will just drop into our laps since it has already BEEN PROVEN that without that quality, super massive NT JV is VALUELESS in the 3-4

I feel sorry for U but U can hope that EM decides to keep a unproductive player on the roster

I guess I should just buy a Pennington top and hope it leads to his departure too. No Jet has lasted long after I bought their shirt: Damien Robinson, Curtis Martin, Vilma (if he goes). I even chased Drew Brees out of San Diego! Mike Vick should be worried...

Final time. 1 year does not prove anything. If that was the case, I guess the Bears should have given up on Urlacher in 2003.

And just to humor you..Move Vilma to the outside.

Actually, let's consider this for a second...

Say we don't get A. Thomas and no marquee OLB in the draft...

What would you all think of Vilma and B. Thomas on the outsides with Barton and Hobson in the middle? This obviously has probably already been proposed but it doesn't seem like a half-bad idea in my opinion.

I think that a certain MLB would feel pretty upset by it firstly.
I would actually like to see that, as a side to side player hes pretty good and can drop into coverage well too.
What he lacks in size he gains in speed

That's how the 3-4 works, you generate your pressure by blitzing LBs...

He is also a text book tackler. Moving him to the outside would be an asset. If Mangini is 100% for the 3-4 I think Vilma would embrace the move.
