Good to hear Mac seems to know what he is doing. Looks like all those reports were his agent trying to get him more money.
Ralph Vacchiano chimed in with "A league source confirms Jets were "out" of the Dont'a Hightower chase on Monday, and their offer was "not close" to the reported $12m/year"
Macc veered away from that strategy last year with Fitz, Mo Wilkerson and got burned. If true that Macc offered a take it or leave it deal then I'm ok with that.
If the Jets had a QB and a respectable offense, or competitive team, it could make sense to add a guy like Hightower to put them over the top. But the fact is, they are rebuilding. No reason to break the bank on Hightower right now. Get the offense fixed first, get your QB of the future. An elite D will only get you so far, and even the D still has major holes even if you add him.
Earlier this morning LaCanfora said the jets have oiffered "far and away" more money than anyone else. Jason Cole of bleacher reports added "the jets have offered more than $12mm per season".
Alright, I'm feeling good about this version of Mac. We've seen glimpses of him being able to conduct a FO well, this is another step in that direction.
Smoke screens galore, now Jets attention will have to shift to other free agents available. It will be interesting to see if the Jets opt to go after Minter
Optimism my friend, optimism. I'd rather have Big Mo for too much than a player like Hightower for too much any day. I'm beginning to wonder if some of these "attempts" are deliberate price driving maneuvers. If that's what is really going on, I'm VERY impressed.
I would have rather had Richardson at half the price and traded wilk for at least a first round pick..oh and richardson with all his baggage may the better of the two. instead we probably trade him for a 4th round pick if we are lucky.
That's all well and dandy, I'd like to trade Mo for Andrew Luck too. Unfortunately in reality, no one was offering a 1st for Wilk, if they were you probably would've gotten your wish.
Sure in that scenario who wouldn't. The reality is much different however. I'd say Mo would've netted a 2nd or a 3rd, and Shelly would've cost 14-15mil/year instead of 18. I still believe when both are playing at their highest ability Mo is the superior player anyways. Oh well, it's all in the past now. Just like this Hightower deal thank god.
