i wud put the Jets at 2, behind the browns, crennel is an awesome coach, and i like droughns.
the jets had 1 bad year, so they still have some of the 10-6 of wateva it was core left on the team, so i think they will bounce back the quickest

This has got to be one of the best posts I've ever read in my lifetime. Kudos jeaux! Now how did that incredibly fast secondary fair last year? With that kind of speed you'd think they be first or second or at least at top 10 defense.

Exactly. I don't care if your defense sends its whole secondary to run the 4x100 in the Olympics, they were still horrible. This years Oakland Raider D IS nearly the same team that ranked as one of the worst teams in Yards per Game right? right.....

I'm certainly not going to try to fight through your raider fanboyism, as it looks like you are pretty set in your frame of mind. But you guys have plenty of questions to answer before you become a consistent contender. And IMO you don't have the potential as of yet to do that.

Oh and Brooks is not your long term solution at qb, but you'll find that out when the season starts.

    lol :)

My guess is he finally gets some games under his belt this season. But who knows? Anyone can get bit by the injury bug like we were last year.

    :)

But they're young and exciting. Jeaux's thinking that he may just be in year 2 1/2 of the four year plan, the way he talks.

JEAUX! Snap out of it, man! There's no measurable for suck.

joe's stream of consciousness writing is pretty difficult to parse when he throws all those numbers in there. i've got to imagine that he has these thoughts of the height/weight/40 times of the raiders roster rolling around in his head all day. someone will ask him if those reports are done and he'll start rattling off the raiders LB's stats. scary stuff.

exactly. not to mention that if we do win 8 games it means are young guys are maturing rapidly and the need to get a top 5 player isn't a neccesity. I would rather watch the jets play competitve and pull out more then 6 wins.....don't know if that will happen though.

Someone wrote something pretty nice about the Jets!

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_y...lug=jc-afcquestions072406&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

    5. Among the Titans, Jets, Bills, Houston Texans, Browns and Raiders, which rebuilding team is in the best position right now?

Well, you can throw out the Raiders because they don't even really know that they're rebuilding. Under managing general partner Al Davis, Oakland isn't exactly in the market to buy green bananas. It's win now or suffer the consequences. The Raiders are suffering and their only real hope is that quarterback Andrew Walter develops fast enough that Aaron Brooks doesn't get on the field. Either that, or Brooks needs to get the fact that he's wasting his talent with his horrendous decision-making. But back to the original question.

You can eliminate Buffalo because the quarterback position is a disaster and the offensive line isn't far behind. Cleveland is the farthest along in the process, but there are some serious questions about just how good the Browns will be at the skill positions between the limitations of quarterback Charlie Frye and running back Reuben Droughns and the injuries to wide receiver Braylon Edwards and tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. Houston has too many holes right now after years of fruitless personnel harvesting. While we understand the logic behind taking Mario Williams over Reggie Bush, the Texans didn't do enough this offseason to help quarterback David Carr.

That leaves the Titans and the Jets and two very different philosophies. Tennessee has the best potential with quarterback Vince Young and rookie running back LenDale White. But the Titans will be extraordinarily lucky if both pan out. It's also going to take Young at least three years to learn the NFL game. By that time, White may eat his way out of the league. New York took a pragmatic approach by drafting offensive linemen D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold in the first round. Sure, the Jets are woefully short of skill players and have a huge question at quarterback (three young guys is not the best setup). However, in the NFL, practicality usually wins over potential. Take the Jets.

I really feel that we can get 8 wins this year. And, you're right, if we're 8-8 then we can do without the top five pick.

IF you look at stats , you would say not too well. If you actually watch some raiders games you would know most of damage was done BY RBS and TES(as I alluded to a number times Raiders didn't have one lb that was good in coverage) To combat opposing Teams RB/TE picking on LBs, Raiders played majority of season in a BIG nickel defense. When your playing with extra DBs instead of LBs, your not going to be as effective stopping the run. There is a reason raiders severly upgraded the LB positon and its alot faster unit now. They now have alot of LBs that can cover.(was chief plan on defense)

Also lets look at that secondary N Asomugha-last year First time starter and played mostly safety in college(Guy gets better every year -hugh upside that just needs more time)
F Washington- rookie who started after week four and was very consistant in coverage. Will be alot better this year NCB - Stanford Routt(rookie) - started out way ahead of F Washington(early saw alot more playing time) but by season end, wasn't nearly as consistant as F washington. Right now hes not there ,but he could be the best of all the Raiders CBs in time.

FS S Schweigert- 2 year starter who broke every one of Rod woodson records at purdue. Needs to become a more consistant tackler but he has great range.

SS/FS?-CB M huff This year rookie going to play all over the secondary . He can play any position in secondary and well.

Subs D Gibson , Jarod cooper- great run supporter but strength not in coverage. He plays expect him to play closer to line of scrimmage.

Last point- Raiders severly upgraded there pass rush by bringing in pass rushing specialist Lance Johnson to team with NFL sack leader D Burgess.
When you can put a LDE D Burgess LDT TOM kelly RDT W Sapp and RDE L Johnstone > You are going tom get serious pressure on QB which should make the secondarys job much easier.
Raiders have a very young defense and its going to be around for awhile. We just don't knmow if it will be 2006 or 2007 when they are ready.

So you've said. And said. And said. And said. And said!!

When none of this pans out, Jeaux, THEN where do you go? After all, you've typically got a backup plan in your back pocket, held in reserve for when Plan A fails (which, by-the-by, it has for the last two seasons you've been crowing around these parts).

Let me show you how silly your point is comparing last year stats.
Didn't the jets have the worst defense a couple year s ago and the biggest culprit was a very old slow Lb corp. Jets fix that problem and they jump significantly up in defense rankings next season. MY point is you have to look at where teams were doing most of the damage. (your weakness). You fix that weakness, and last year stats mean nada.

Again Raiders young secondary played very well last year. Damage was mostly done against lbs, with tes and RB. This year raiders upgraded their speed at LB. Thomas Howard/ D bing both were former safetys that are LBs now. Sam williams at fresno ,they never ask him to go after the QB, because his coverage abilty was needed more.
NOw with safetys not having to cover up for LBs, the unit should be alot more effective.
Also there an X factor and his name is M Huff. Gives Raiders unique ability , as you can ask him to match up with a WR man to man.(can do so much with him)
A Brooks will just be starting QB, to start the season. Raiders have there long term QB on roster and his name is Andrew walter 6'6 235 . Raiders love him and there a reason why If you read my post around draft time, I said there was no way, Raiders were picking a Qb in first round(it was a smokescreen) Raiders envison a walter being the starter in 2007, but brooks struggles early, and walter will take over . Reports from a player said the Kid had defense players standing on sideline giving him a standing ovation. (he was that impressive during raiders last minicamp)

Raiders will have a very very good defense, but I can't tell you if it will be next year, or the following season.
Ever Raider fan will tell you they are most excited about the defense this year. (it could be one biggest supprises in the league)

Holy Smokes!!! Geezus, Jeauxseph! That fence rail you're sitting on is carrying, what, like 400 pounds????

Here's the thing - and I don't think even you would deny this: EVERY prediction you've made for your team. . . EVERY. . . SINGLE. . . ONE. . . has flamed-out miserably. BUT, you've always fallen back on something. That bunch'a fat %$&*s that were going to put a brick wall up at the line of scrimmage? They got stuck at the buffet table, and we then had to hear this "tight-ends and running backs" theory to Raider failure. The secondary that you crow about (Fwashington, Nasomugha, Sscheigert, et al.), you're right, they weren't the worst part of your defense - but they still stunk. I'm going to keep telling you this until I'm blue in the screen: There is no measurable for suck.

Look, I'm a huge Jeaux fan, so I'm trying to SAVE you all the future heartache. Listen to me when I tell you that the only thing going-on in Oakland these days is a 43 year-old spitfire of a CEO, with more humor and wit than the entire AFC owners group combined. I think it's a shame that most of her duties include cleaning up "accidents" left by the owner.
