With everything that's happened since the end of the season, I get the sense of a new approach being taken by the Jets. In the past it seemed like the Jets - Woody - believed he was doing people a favor by hiring them, and only hired people who agreed to that relationship. Hiring first timers as HC and GM - Rex, Idzik, Macc, Bowles - allowed Woody to basically dictate the terms since they (ostensibly) didn't have any leverage. But with Douglas - also a first timer - we see him push back and not simply take whatever was offered. Basically he said "If you want me, prove it. Show me the money!" And rather than pass on him and go to the next sucker on the list, Chris blinked. And that's a good thing. I think Macc knew he was in over his head and was thrilled to even be offered the job; Douglas on the other hand knows his value and would only take the job if the Johnsons acknowledged that value too. I feel confident that we have the right guy now who will push back against the Johnsons and Gase if needed. I'm finally ALMOST optimistic.
Welcome to the Jets, Joe Douglas! Now get to work fixing our OL (especially the C position) and CB, and putting your plan in place to build a SB winner on the Jets..
In a week or two Houston will sign a deal with their new GM which will give an enhanced view of the market. Then we can argue about who made a great deal and who took advantage of whom; who was lowballing and who was ridiculous in their demands. That should kill at least another week of the off season.
That's okay; in all my years here I've always tried to respond to the comments made, not who made them.
I’m good with move. When it comes to non player acquisitions go all out... Get the best you can at all costs. If it’s not working, move on Zero cap hit and this money is like pennies to billionaires
Final observation from me tonight The 6 year part is brilliant (maybe by accident) The jets just “checked” Adam Gase and clearly the GM has the final “say” and “power”.......
Supposedly we came in at 1.5M per year and Sexton negotiated up to over 3M per year. It’s on Twitter. I’m not making it up.
As long as he has a good football mind he could weigh 400 lbs for all I care. He was a key contributor in putting that Eagles championship team together. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Subtract Jeffrey Lurie and Add Christopher Johnson to the top picture, and I think Jets fans can die happy.
Another name possibly to be included in his staff is Andy Weidl who is considered his “Right hand man”.Hes currently under a director of personnel title w Philly & could slot into Douglas old role w Phillly. Also from the Ozzie Newsome tree https://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/team/front-office/andy-weidl
This looks to be a great hire. The Jets were able to get the top guy on the market and gave him a long enough contract for him to fix any roster issues he sees.
How did we need another defensive tackle? We needed a pass rusher. We have 3 recent drafts with these types and between them all, they probably have 6 sacks. Williams got manhandled by the Clemson guard in the championship game.
