This is one area that can be exploited much more than it has been, although some teams - like the Eagles apparently - are catching on. Hopefully now that Douglas is here the Jets will too.

As for the use of analytics, as I've said before, it's one tool in the toolbox, it's neither good, nor bad, by itself, it all depends on who's using it. Fro what I've read about Douglas he seems like a good executive. By that I mean that he himself doesn't necessarily need to be an expert, but he's expert utilizing expertise. All successful executives have that ability. So with Douglas I think we'll see him hire some guys who are experts analytics, and others who use more traditional methods, and he'll combine this expertise with his own and his experience and his "gut", and he'll build a winning team. I realize this is projection, but I think it's reasonable based on what we know about him.

I was doing the same thing while in Aruba. I need to get a life because it’s not normal following jets social media for a gm hiring while on vacation.

I just hope Douglas addresses the cancellation of day 3 of the first week of June OTAs. Unacceptable.

Douglas and Woody played against each other in high school, or rather their teams did as Joe was also an Olineman.

I hope Douglas fires that back-stabbing megalomaniac Gase at his press conference before he does any more damage!

This is a very brief, but good, assessment of how the Jets may have finally turned the corner:

    http://turnonthejets.com/2019/06/new-york-jets-the-winding-road-to-a-likely-smart-decision/

In particular, this jumped out at me:

Douglas is hopefully going to be bring a hybrid of scouting acumen, progressive roster building that embraces analytics and savvy contract maneuvering. One of the things that has been encouraging about the Philadelphia Eagles success is that they have used all avenues creatively to build a winning team. It has been a mix of drafting well (at times being aggressive for moves up and at times compiling assets by moving down), trading picks for veterans and hitting on free agent additions. There is no one right way to build a roster. It isn’t just “draft well and always take BPA.” The draft is a crapshoot and BPA is misguided if you don’t factor in positional value. Sometimes it makes sense to trade a pick for a veteran. Sometimes it makes sense to splurge in free agency, like when you have a quarterback on a rookie contract.

The bold is where I think Maccagnan went wrong. Well, ONE of the ways in which he went wrong. His real problem was in having no real blueprint beyond BPA. In any case, I think Douglas will use all the "tools" in his toolbox to create a team with a winning identity, something this team hasn't had since forever.
