The owner has to pay for that. Sean Payton was available. He is gonna establish a world-class coaching staff in Denver. Expensive though
The plan was "Let's fire MLF because scapegoat hahaha." Which turned into "Hi Mr. Coordinator, would you like to coordinate the Jets offense? You'll get the once in a lifetime opportunity of fixing Zach Wilson!" Which turned into "We'll literally hire anyone now, please just don't leave us coordinatorless."
the front office has a totally different vision that the coaching staff. They forced the lafleur firing, now Saleh has to scramble and find some friends that aren’t already employed. that’s why we ended up with the guy who ran the leagues worst offense as the new coordinator and the guy who ran the 2nd worst offense as the passing coordinator. They were unemployed and available
Wasn’t everyone begging for experience on the offensive staff? Welp, we got that! Now we’ll see if they are an upgrade or not, sure will help if we upgrade the QB position.
Which Is exactly what happens when the owner gets involved and gives in to the fanbase pressure of It all. I do think they had a solid plan, then they freaked out, now we are throwing shit at the wall and hoping that something sticks. We literally have the worst owner In all of sports. I'm convinced.
Clearly you aren’t a Knicks fan. Woody Johnson is a dream compared to James Dolan. also the plan involving MLF sucked. This one isn’t perfect but I much prefer it to throwing a bunch of stale shit at the wall and hoping it sticks.
I do not watch basketball. They can actually get to the playoffs though, no? How many times have they got to the playoffs since 2010? So, I'll stick to my initial comment.
Well the problem is you're only counting from 2010 on. The Knicks have been a complete disaster since 2002. Far beyond any disaster the Jets have been. I'm a diehard fan of both teams, I can absolutely confirm the Knicks have been the bigger trainwreck since the new millenium started.
I just looked up their playoff history, championships, all of that.. In that time. Knicks were still better than the NYJ under, Woody. In that time frame. Woody fucking sucks.. ..and I don't even know why I'm debating this. They both suck, who cares? You get the point, I get the point. Moving on.
I don't think they actually had a true plan from moving on from MLF. They just felt the pressure from the fanbase and owner. They intended to keep MLF initially, then MLF got a good job offer with the Rams, they pivoted due to the pressure from the fanbase and owner. So, I truly believe they have been working on the fly ever since, with no true direction. Calculated, yet, desperate. All at the same time.
I'm with the guy you replied to though... what exactly do you think their plan was with MLF and how is it better than this?
This was the year for Woody to either go clean slate, or have JD fire the CS and give the job to the highest qualified candidate. Saleh's uncertain status, in fact the status of the QB position has to be a turn off to anyone with a legacy to protect. Reich and Payton may have considered the Jets IF they had total control over the CS. JD could have just been the shopper off a wish list. By keeping Saleh, they eliminated the A-list candidates and now we find ourselves once again on the outside scraping crumbs that fall off the NFL table. None of these guys are a threat to Saleh's job but this is a two edged sword. If both of these guys come in and bombs? They all will be looking for other jobs in '24. That includes Saleh as well. They may well force Woody to blow it up and start over again. Too bad the most qualified guys will already have jobs. Again, a year late for Mr. Johnson to make a franchise changing decision that might have worked for once.
I think the plan was within what I wrote. It's the same plan they used with Ulbrich after the first year where the defense wasn't very good. They upgraded positions on the defense, they brought In some guys to shore up some spots, and they continued to install and solidify a defensive scheme they believed In. They obviously made some adjustments from year one to year two as well. They obviously got It right last year with this approach. The used time, they ignored the outside noise, and they marched forward with the belief that they would get this thing headed In the right direction. I have every belief that the same would have happened under MLF. The scheme works, It's a proven scheme In the NFL, and It's very successful. We had spurts under MLF where this was absolutely the case, we seen guys wide open, we seen the QB carousel, we seen the explosion and dynamics that COULD be there within that offense. A lot of things happened that derailed this offense, injuries was a big factor, the inconsistent QB play was a big factor, and the inexperience to call plays for MLF was an issue when he didn't have all the pieces needed to make that scheme work. However.. I know for a fact, that scheme works, and It's a great scheme. Again, I seen really good offensive football from this team as well, so I know It was more than possible. The consistency wasn't there last year, things fell apart, and we know the end result. QB play was dog shit, and the OL fell apart with all the injuries and numerous backups. It actually surprises me that the offense didn't fall to the worst In the league after all that. However, the offense did play significantly better before Breece and AVT went down for the year, the year progressed, players started to wear down, and we ran too thin at too many spots In that offense. I believe, continuity was the key, MLF, that scheme, losing that. I think It will be too much to overcome at this point. These guys have a one year mandate and starting completely over on offense with guys that have very sketchy track records, doesn't inspire hope for me. I think that with a few more additions on offense, stabilizing the QB position, fixing the OL, this offense would've taken off just like the defense did last year. Again, many NYJ fans were pounding the table to fire Ulbrich In the exact same manner as they did for MLF to be fired. I don't know If you were one of those fans, I don't remember, but, many fans were obviously very wrong then. I think many are equally wrong now. ..but, as always, we shall see.
I agree with you though. Getting a guy like Payton, damn, he could've been our Andy Reid. (Eagles to Chiefs) I think the Broncos are fucking fortunate. Fuck them though. lol Next year, If this thing does fly off the rails. (Most likely) Jimmy Harbaugh will be a very hot name next year I have a feeling, so, there Is at least one proven guy potentially available next year for us. (sigh)
The biggest difference is that MILF sucked for two years, and Ulbrich for one. That's a big difference. I can't say I am inspired by the replacements, but I wouldn't be inspired with MILF coming back either. If Hackett or Downing help us get Rodgers or Carr though, I think it was worth to make a change. Also, Tannehill appears to be 3d best (likely) available QB, and Downing has a connection to him as well. It appears the moves that were made also include a component of luring one of the best QBs on the market to the Jets. Let's hope this works.
LOL. But really, for me Rodgers is #2, Carr #2, Tanny #3, and Jimmy #4. All of these guys have pretty tight connections with Jets coaching staff. Tanny in particular is a deceptively solid option. After he left that one guy available he won the job over Mariota and put together really good 4 year span, averaging 100+ passer rating and even deservingly made pro bowl. Titans fell apart with him injured. Which is why I am not sure if he will be available, but there are some ramblings that he might be. If we cannot get Rodgers and Carr, I would jump at a chance to get him, and Downing having been his coach last few years certainly couldn't hurt.
No. The difference Is that the defense had more talent, less injuries, and much better depth. The offense had less talent, a QB carousel, and injuries all over the place. We should've upgraded the talent, figured out the QB situation, and kept the plan the plan. Starting over on offense, In a make or break playoff mandate year, almost never goes well. Ever. Getting rid of the OC Is always a bad look, bad sign, and usually translates to a very bad outcome. The scheme was legit. MLF would've been fine given the chance... Now he Is the OC for a legit offensive mind. I expect the Rams offense to actually look like a legit NFL caliber offense. I anticipate our offense being complete dog shit for multiple reasons. We, shall see. I'm not inspired by the new QB options, none of this makes me think It's for the better. I'm not excited at all about It.
