He Was QB coach for 2015 and 2016 and OC for 2017 in Raider land and Carr was pro bowler all three years, so there is that tidbit. But of course we will spend all of our energy on the DUI
As an OC, he wasn't great, but he wasn't terrible either. The key point to remember though is that he is not hired to be an OC. He did a good job in lesser roles to get promoted to OC, where he wasn't great. We are taking him to do a lesser job, which he did well in multiple teams. Did a great job with Stafford and Carr when he was their QB coach. Stafford broke out in 2011 when Downing became his QB coach. Had multiple Pro Bowl seasons with Carr. This is not a bad hire. Basically the role is Knapp replacement - and Downing is not a bad option.
It is rather irritating that it feels like we always end up with the island of misfit toys and that includes a mixture of retreads and unknowns who usually never pan out. It would be refreshing if we just got a Wade Phillips type of coordinator at one of the spots where it’s just decades of proven success rather than these guys where it’s like well he ran two successful units in 2007 and 2016.
This Is like trying to turn dog shit Into something that doesn't smell like shit. These hires smell like shit to me. Color me, unimpressed.
you GOTTA be kiddin me!! I'm a Titan fan and their passing offense was HORRID this year. Granted, they had a lot of injuries and lost their star WR and #2, along with a TE. But I have never (and I mean NEVER) seen a more innocuous, inept passing offense. I don't mean Tannehill himself was bad, but just that they had absolutely no clue how to best use what little resources they had. The only hire I have ever seen that made me feel more sick to my stomach and questioning the sanity of a front office, was when the Jets hired Adam whats his name from the Dolphins. Yeah, it's that bad my friends.
This almost seems like they are making an effort to find misfits, though. And wasting no time. They went from master plan to... I don't even know what to call this. It feels confused and without direction.
Yeah........ after doing more research on Hackett, I felt a little better. This guy both as a coach and as a person makes no sense to me.
He kept coaching after the DUI. The concensus is he was fired for the performance of the Titans offense.
This is Saleh's MO... either he hires inexperienced friends, or inexperienced friends of friends, OR, he hires experienced friends, or experienced friends of friends. The common link, is he hasn't hired anyone that can/will challenge him to grow as a coach. He seems to want to feel comfortable. He has his fav schemes, his data... & his cliches. Other than that, I haven't seen him grow as a coach. The challenges he's faced, since his hire, he's had few answers. As pumped as I was, last off-season, looking forward to the '22 season, I haven't seen anything so far that tells me '23 will be a step forward. Obviously, I hope I'll be surprised, but as of now I'm not seeing anything that suggests the organization has learned anything, from last season's challenges/problems. Round & round they go... .
