Good thing we have Gase to oversee, Logains apparently was a reason the Browns took Manziel back in 2014.
As the QB's coach at that time, he was a voice in the room but I doubt he was the main decision maker there regarding taking Manziel Manziel could've had a nice career. The guy could play the position, but it was a bad place...dysfunctional org, and his personal demons could not be kept in check.
My point is any notable OC that plays a significant role is a recognizable name. The fact he’s the OC and the QB coach tells us all we need to know about his OC role. Let’s put it this way. If the offense struggles I’m going after gase not loggains. And if it succeeds im crediting gase not loggains.
In an infamous radio interview with ESPN Arkansas a week after the 2014 draft, Loggains claimed owner Jimmy Haslam gave the order for the Browns to trade up from No. 26 to No. 22 so they could nab Manziel. Since then, Haslam and General Manager Ray Farmer have denied Loggains’ version of draft night. “We’re sitting there and they keep showing Johnny on TV and Johnny and I are texting and he shoots me a text and he says, ‘I wish you guys would come get me. Hurry up and draft me because I want to be there. I want to wreck this league together,’?” Loggains said during the interview. “When I got that text, I forwarded it to the owner and to the head coach. I’m like, ‘This guy wants to be here. He wants to be part of it.’ As soon as that happened, Mr. Haslam said, ‘All right, pull the trigger. We’re trading up to go get this guy.’?” Pettine later revealed he made Loggains wear a visor with the words “I’m a dummy” written on it because of the comments he made on the radio.
Haslam still forced Ray Farmer's pick. Farmer wanted Brandon Cooks. But granted Loggains did play a role, but was he the reason? Eh ... I guess to the coaches, he was the reason, but I think Haslam wanted Manziel all along.
Anyone who believes loggains was THE reason they took Manziel must be crazy. That was an organizational decision and a dysfunctional org at that. I’m sure he played a role but who said pull the trigger? Wasn’t him.
Sam is going to be too nice to Loggains too. I bet a lot of the offense won't pay him any mind if they can get away with it.
Let's just say, for argument's sake, that Loggains was the reason the Browns chose Manziel: Who cares? It is irrelevant since the Jets have Sam Darnold at QB. Not like Dowell has to scout and choose the next QB for the Jets. Fans are really grasping at straws to not like this hire. I know it is the off-season, but give it a rest. The offense's success will be up to Gase.
What a discrace this team is...they fire one bad staff and hire another one..Chris Johnson just doesnt get it he needs to step away and let someone else run the franchise because his approach isnt working.
