Yeah with a bunch of crappy QBs (specifically Osweiler) and with that comes conservative play-calling. Stills became more of a possession receiver so I think he is a better player now then where he was years ago. Stats without context? Not much value when it comes to rankings. What about Albert Wilson? Explosive receiver before he got hurt, made some Miami people actually forget about Landry.
Speaking of context... The best year of Stills' career came pre-Loggains in a year Tannehill played 0 games and the Dolphins relied on a recently unretired Jay Cutler to play QB. It's almost like you can't attribute a player's performance to any on position coach and it has to do with a sum of the parts. And we currently have 3 of those parts, one of which was added the year Stills had his worst year as a Dolphin. Stills is not a bullet you want in the chamber when trying to argue for a certain coach or group of coaches. Wilson was great, especially when you run the most WR screens in the league. Hopefully we don't do that.
Think Osweiler may have played a part in those stats? Stills caught all of 5 short passes in the 6 weeks Tannehill was out. If there was a bright spot in Miami's offense, it was the WR's. Wilson was outstanding btw..
Well... yes... but that's because the coach/OC thought it would be best to not use their best offensive player in favor of Frank Gore. Also it's hard to say Osweiller hurt Stills when he had the best year of his career with Cutler. A bad, old Cutler.
Would you rather have Smokin Cigs Cutler, Tannehill or Osweiler as your QB? That plays a role in the stats. I look specifically at the improvement of the players as a credit towards coaching (sure not the full 100% but a decent portion). Statistically, Stills had a down year, but he's no longer that one trick pony that would just once in a while beat you down the field. Player development. Albert Wilson came out of no-where, and give credit to the coaches and players. They ran a much different offense down in Miami. It was more-so college like with screens, quick passes and such. It's quite possible, they do better with this set of receivers and especially the QB. That offense was a mess, and I still think a shitty QB contributed to that.
Osweiler is one of the worst QB's in the league. He makes Cutler look amazing, so not really sure where you going with that as an argument. Obviously that had a huge effect on Stills, and Miami stats in general.
If we're playing this game, then you have to say Cutler is better than Tannehill because Stills first two years with Tannehill weren't as good as his third with Cutler.
lol, your argument to another poster was that Stills statistically regressed this season, as evidence that these coaches suck. However, you did not account for Osweiler playing a major role this season, under which time Stills stats took the most significant hit. You have to look a little beyond stats some time.
I think the media painted a poor picture of Gase. They were more worried about his eyes in the interview than his coaching ability. This Francesa interview really set the records straight.
If Miami's offense was so bad and their Defense was so bad, and they had so many injuries, how did they win 7 games? I guess that can be looked at as a positive.
For the love of god I hope we don't win 7-8 games next season, all or fucking nothing, middle of the road nothingness will kill me dead. 10 wins+ will be fine though
They also won a lot of close games in Gase's tenure. Complete opposite for us. They were a pretty broken down team, I hate the Dolphins, but they won a lot of games I thought they would lose. That team is not that talented.
Both of my posts on Stills went beyond the stats if your definition of beyond the stats is looking at who played QB. You can't say "well Brock sucks" when the best year of Stills' career came with Jay Cutler and Matt Moore starting at QB. As I said already... it's a sum of the parts. Right now we have three of those parts. Not sure that's the recipe for success but we'll find out. I pray I'm wrong. Let me guess... you don't like the hire, but Gase likes it, so you are going to give him a chance. That's how this routine goes right? Did I skip a step?
I think its funny that you are bitching and moaning about a guy you have NEVER heard about before today. And please don't try to tell me you have.
Wouldnt have been my first choice, but it doesnt matter anyway. Clearly he's just a yes man to Gase. If Darnold sucks, this guy will take a ton of the blame If Darnold improves, this guy will get none of the credit When it comes to fans evaluating coaches, coordinator is a really shitty job.
This is kinda dumb. You can look up a person's body of work if you've never heard of them. And it's amazing that this far in, you still can't figure out this isn't just about the WR coach or the OC/QB coach or the head coach. Context was applied to the stats multiple times. I can't help that you're so worked up you blow right past it just to get to the reply box to type something non-constructive, emotionally-charged and sarcastic.
