I don't know why everyone is so down on this move. I actually love it

Well, as skeptical as I was at the announcement, I figure Penny knows far more about this guy than any of us, so if he says he's a good coach, I'm on board.

The thing that's being untold here is that David Lee is the same guy who had a say in Pat White being drafted by Miami and was pro Brad Smith/Fitzpatrick two mobile-ish types in BUF.....

What I am getting at here is that David Lee will try and make a HUGE play to get Geno Smith, whether its by a trade up or if Smith falls by 9.

I think there's a great chance that if Geno Smith is available at pick 9, he will be a Jet. He's the type of QB that David Lee gushes over and would be the media hypefest Woody would want. Its just a matter of how much Rex's Sanchez love would be able to calm Woody down or if Tebow will still be on the team.

His opinion along with Morhinweg will be greatly relied upon if we are evaluating QBs, yes along with the scout team. Both of these guys would like a Geno Smith type....its just a matter of if he's available for the right price or if he slides and makes it past KC/OAK/ARI/BUF.

Just more proof that some people can't be happy unless they have something to be unhappy about. Some of the shit I'm reading in this thread about how he's a wildcat QB coach is just laughable. Guy has had success before the Wildcat was even introduced. Plenty have pointed it out. But I guess it's just easier to not do your homework and bitch about it instead.

I didnt love it when I first saw it, still dont, but after reading up on the guy it's clear he knows a thing or two about QBing in the NFL in general.

I hope your point isn't that because he just joined he can't have knowledge or can't input and share his opinion??? Does that mean he just became a fan??

    Jesus christ....

Really doubt that a new GM would use his first draft pick based on what his QB coach wants. That being said; if Geno is there at #9, it's probably the right pick. He would be a great fit in the WCO.

You joined this board... 3 weeks ago. How exactly would you know that they hated Tanny, Sparano, Schotty, Cavanaugh and every other hire? You must be psychic.

They may have input, just as Rex does, but I do not foresee this as a viable possibility at all. They say Idzik is really smart, so I don't see a smart man making a pick like that knowing that unless you think he is a sure fire franchise QB, I don't think he will be.

I just can't see that happening.

It is questionable, for me, that they bring in a guy they tried to hire a year ago for a completely different system.

Surely the OC is entitled to ask for a QB coach who can teach the skills he values for his own system?

He's got a lot of experience at least. Cavanaugh came in raw, never having been a QB coach prior, a failed OC if I remember right. Upgrade. IMO we've now upgraded 3 crucial positions. GM, OC, QB coach all better than last year, at least on paper. We'll see what happens! I like the fact that we're bringing in experienced people who have done it before instead of gambling on hopefuls. It's the opposite of "same ol' jets".

He has ties to the SEC. He's alright in my book.

    Good hir
    So.far so good this offseason

Idzik Mornhinweg and Lee are upgrades over Tanny Sparano and Cavanaugh and it seems like all three were accomplished in a prudent deliberate and well thought out manner that historically hasn't always been the Jet MO.

I'm also not unhappy about the internal coaching promotion of Kotwica and Thurman to coordinator roles

Now it's time to hopefully see the removal of unnecessary and expensive dead wood like Tebow Scott Pace Thomas Smith Pouha etc to get the cap at least manageable for 2013

I'm no dark slider but Penny was CBPOY twice.

He was just the most talented china doll in the league

Look, this says one two things...

They want to get something out of Tebow, and while MM should provide a spark to zmark, any advancement by Tebow.....will force (hopefully) mark to improve.

At the very least, it will show them what they do or don't have....
