I like Goff more than others, but I'm not taking him with the 20th pick. Paxton Lynch is solid, but needs around two years to sit before he becomes a quality starting Quarterback. I don't know much about Wentz, but Hackenberg may be the worst QB in this class to be honest. The Jets draft that guy in round one and I may call it quits. Sam Decker or an offensive tacklealong those lines would be a good get. I would be fine with Elliot as well. he is not Todd Gurley, but he doesn't seem to have a glaring weakness.
If Zeke is there, I would take him. Without hesitation. He will be an instant impact player in the NFL. I do think there will be great value for OL help in the second and third rounds. I only thing a couple guys have the ability to play LT in this draft though, one of which will be a top 5 pick as long as he doesn't do anything stupid leading up to the draft.
Best Player Available regardless of position. There's not one position on the team that we can't stand to improve, get younger or get cheaper at.
Tony P is usually wrong , don't believe the QB talk in Rd 1 & 2. Besides, this QB class stinks and the Jets really like Petty for the future. I have no problem the Jets taking a QB Rd 3 and beyond. I want the BPA and the 1st 2 rounds will have some good OTs & LBs that should qualify as the BPA when the Jets are OTC. Jets need to upgrade the speed of the team with a playmaker at RB (we will lose Ivory or Powell to FA) and WR who can also return kicks, a weakness of the 2015 team.
i dont see the hoopla about zeke ... hes a good back but not a first round talent imo i dont see great vision, yards after contact, or shiftiness from him
Goff will be long gone by 20, Lynch is terrible. In every big game this year he folded. Wentz is an intriguing prospect. For me, there is a lot to like about him. Calling Hackenberg the worst QB in this class is quite the exaggeration. Yes, he has had two straight tough years, but his OL has been terrible, and he's playing in a system that doesn't fit his skill set. In the pro style Patriots system he had when O'Brien was there as a freshman, he played great. He's got the size and arm strength. I believe he'll be fine in the pros.
Really? You don't run for almost 37oo Yards and 41 Tds in 2 seasons without premier talent. The only weakness of Zeke's game and it's more of a product of Urban Meyer's play calling, he's not much of a receiver out of the backfield.
Zeke is excellent at pass protection, VERY rare for a running back out of college. Still wouldn't draft him in RD1 though.
Would be sweet if Jaylon Smith's injury caused him to fall to our pick. He'd be one hell of a DD replacement and eventually Harris. Sucks Rex is there a pick before us to take who we want lol.
Pre injury, Smith was arguably the best defensive player in this draft, next to Joey Bosa. His injury will hurt his stock some, he might not declare and stay another year. I think Smith is going to be an outstanding NFL player.
Hope he comes out and falls to us instead of going back to school. 20th should be around the lowest he goes. I just want a highly rated player at a position of need. I won't be disappointed with any of: Smith, Elliot, Floyd, Jack, Ragland, Conklin, Decker, Stanley. Some might not be worthy some will be gone long before. I have faith Bowles and Mac will take best OL or LB/OLB available who fits our defense but you also have to take a long hard look at Elliot.
Unless Carson Wentz is the one the Jets have identified, I don't like at all. The only reasons I say I'd like Carson Wentz is that I haven't heard anything negative about him yet other than the fact he played at the FCS level and I think the others aren't good prospects. I haven't seen him play, and might change my mind after I have. There should be better QBs next season. IMO taking a QB this season would be akin to taking Geno Smith in 2013 instead of waiting until 2014 and taking Teddy Bridgewater or Derek Carr.
I agree that he's a premier talent, but I don't want a first round RB, particularly one who isn't a great receiver. I'd much rather take a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round who is fast, has great hands/is a great receiver and ideally, who is also an excellent punt returner.
you most certainly can ... there have been quite a few backs that have torn it up in college and been no more than solid in the pros i think hes a good player. hes patient and fast for his size ... but i just havent seen the first round talent from the games ive watched i need to watch his cut ups, tho
I think Lynch was overrated, the hype seems to have died out, but I don't think he's terrible. He had some really good games agains USF, Cincinnati, and Ole Miss. Hackenberg isn't the worst QB prospect, but IMO he is terrible in nearly every way possible, aside from the physical tools. He airmails screen passes on a consisent basis. If he was a good prospect, downgrading from Bill O Brian to Frank would have led to some regression, but to regress to this level tells he was either a product of Bill Brien, or maybe we overrated his freshman season because of highly recurited he was. here just too many exucses for him... if he ends up with Bruce Arians ,maybe he can become a quality starter, but I don't see hi amunting to anything else if he gets drafted within the first 75 picks and is asked to be a future savior. Goff's an air raid passer, frame, medicore arm...I think he may be avaliable at twenty. I wouldn't take him there, but everyone thought Teddy Bridgewater was a lock to be a top ten pick at this time two years ago.
I could live with it I suppose, but I have not seen anything yet from this regime to suggest to me that they value the RB position that highly. I think RB in the 1st round is just a risky proposition these days, RBs seem to be more interchangeable than ever. Even when you look at the elite RBs, it is noteworthy that teams who lost elite RBs to injury this season actually became better offensively after the injuries. KC, Seattle, and Pittsburgh all excelled offensively after Charles, Lynch, and Bell went down, so what does that say about the value of a top #1 RB in today's NFL? And look at the guys who stayed healthy that had the best seasons, AP and Gurley for example, you would be hard-pressed to say that the Vikings and Rams had good offenses. It's just not the way to win in today's NFL.
