The idea of keeping around a veteran HOF signal caller to bridge for a rookie HC is tempting.

The idea of keeping around Aaron Rodgers the person is not.

I'd like a bridge QB for a couple of seasons, this whole drafting a "FQB" to go along with a staff of mostly rookies is not a good formula for this team. I think they need to have a veteran starting for the first couple of seasons so they can learn what they are good at, and then find the QB in the draft in year 3 unless they are clueless and didn't earn that shot at a QB.

Tyrod is good for half a season before he folds.

    Who's applauding? Just stating facts.

Everything short of a VLT is a failure...

    Fixed it for you.
Aaron Rodgers the QB should be a great bridge QB for the Jets in 2025 and even 2026, but like you said: Rodgers the person ruins all of that. It’s unfortunate.

Justin Fields 4-2 record, 10 TDs to only 1 INT, beloved in the locker room, only 25 years old

Not against this at all.... but I also think Pittsburgh is going to keep him.

Pittsburgh probably does keep Fields. But who knows they have some tough decisions to make there, I dont think they can run it back with both Wilson and Fields, that locker room will crack.

Fields is a free agent, and Pitts unceremoniously benched him even though he did quite well. Not sure if he would want to come back, I doubt it. He actually led them to 4-2 record. This season he had 10 total TDs (5 passing and 5 rushing), and 2 TOs (1 INT and 1 Lost fumble). Career high in % complete and passer rating, 66% and 93 respectively.

At 25 years of age, I think he may have a breakout season left in him still like Sam. If I am the Jets, I am calling him as soon as possible as a #1 overall Jets FA target and giving him a solid offer to come here as a starter to replace Rodgers on the 1st day of free agency.

I’m warming up to having Fields behind Center behind a strong run game and O line.

Out of the FA, I would happily take Fields. Let him and Taylor battle in camp for starting job. There's a lot to like about Fields as a hold the fort type guy that still is young enough to potentially be the answer at QB. He could be for the Jets what Geno has been for Seattle...

Not a fan. Career 45 TD 31 INT is more representative. Also he doesn't really move the ball reliably. Even during his "hot" start at Pittsburgh the team scored 18, 13 and 20 points. Plus he fumbles, misses open guys too much, and does dumb things like sliding before the first down marker . Basically two teams have dumped this guy as soon as they could.

He's more Josh Rosen than Sam Darnold. Pass.

Look, we’re not very good and we don’t have many options. Fields has always had potential. Who knows, maybe it clicks for him. Of course it’s unlikely, in which case we’ll stink and be lined up in good shape to take a QB in 2026, which has a much better crop than this year.

These were all the same thing said about Sam, who failed in multiple places before his success in Minny. Of course that does not mean Fields will also succeed, but this is not Josh Rosen territory. If Fields didn't have the problems you speak of, he would not be available. What I am saying is that pickings are slim and he is the best of the bunch. He will warrant about the same contract as Sam did, about 10 mil a year. PFF agrees:
    Projected Contract
    1 yrs — $11m avg/yr
    $11m guaranteed, $11m total
"If there’s a lesson to be learned from the recent resurgences of highly touted quarterback prospects like Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and others, it’s that we probably shouldn’t completely give up on a quarterback until they’ve had a shot with a quality coaching staff and supporting cast. While Fields did eventually cede duties to Russell Wilson this season, we already saw signs of improvement during his 4-2 run as the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ starting quarterback. The physical tools are still undeniable and offer value, even if he is solely deployed in certain packages as a juiced-up backup."

Also keep in mind, Pitts averaged 20.7 ppg with him at the helm. Russ did better with 22.5, but the difference is relatively small and Fields has improved every year and did get better last year. He might further improve this year. Pitts also had the worst OL in the NFL. Fields can be had for a fraction of Russ' cost too, while the difference in point production was small. For 10-11 mil, sign me up.

Yeah the idea of Aaron Rodgers thinking he is the smartest man in the room clashing with new inexperienced coaches is plain dumb, along with the 63 cap hit in 2026. If you wanted to keep Rodgers you should of brought in a experienced coach with credibility who would shut Rodgers up quick. But you brought in 1st time rookies that have never won anything before and Rodgers has, so his ego will get in the way of progress. it will once again be his way or the highway. So get rid of him asap to have a better future.

    he does fumble a lot

hes not the franchise savior thats for sure and I'd certainly be open to other options but I think we could do worse than Fields

Which means that "Rodgers may suck... but he still notched the #3 position of all Jet QB's in yardage and touchdowns for a season" is useless information except to historians.

Oh yeah he's such a terrible person, he quit when he got injured and showed no fight to get back on the field and quit on this team. Agreed.
