What? Jimminy Crickets? I'm trying to cut down on my cursing since becoming a mod. I've got some doozies lined up.
Caught who by surprise? Our issue the last 5 years were being able to run the football and stop the run. We haven't allow a 100yd rusher this season and we went up against Charles, McFadden and Green-Ellis. I dont know if we'll make the playoffs this season, but we're on our way to being a very good talented team.
Dude - not to shit on your posts but the last eight threads created you are talking about a team that is HUNGRY. Go get yourself a God Damn snack and please stop with the hungry. Its week 3. Lets not have a meltdown over a loss to a much improved Oakland team.
Maybe not being able to stop the run is a communicable disease, and we've passed it on to the Jets???
First off, hello to everyone. After lurking around these boards for a little while, this is my first post. I have been a Jets fan for my entire life going back to the Joe Walton, Ken O'Brien, Freeman McNeil, Wesley Walker days. Needless to say I have seen more bad times than good as a fan of this team. I remember vividly the few glimpses of the promised land during Bill Parcells tenure - only to see it fall apart when Vinny tore his achilles on opening day in '99 - and the moderate success with Herm Edwards and Chad Pennington. But even during those somewhat successful times there was always the sense that annual trips to the playoffs followed by an early exit were all that could be hoped for, and when measured against what came before that was OK. The point I am trying to make here is that Rex Ryan and the results from the last two years should have changed the expectations of Jets fans. We should no longer be content to sneak into the playoffs as a wild card and hope to catch fire while playing on the road in January. But many of the posts I have seen here following yesterday's loss seem to be hinting that losing this game is really no big deal because we should still make the playoffs. This is the mentality of the perpetual runner-up. The reason why this loss is so big in my eyes is because: a) it follows a blowout win. Dominant performances followed by mistake filled performances is the definition of inconsistency. b) it is the first of a brutal 3 game road trip and, of the 3, by far the "easiest" one which we absolutely had to win. c) the road to the Super Bowl is so much easier as a 1 or 2 seed where you can count on at least one home game in the playoffs. Losing to a team which you should be able to beat, especially when the Ravens and Pats are up next, makes getting that 1 or 2 seed so much more difficult. None of this is a problem if you are content once again with a 5 or 6 seed finish and being forced to play the entire month of January on the road. We know damn well from the last two seasons how valuable home playoff games are and therefore should be prepared to take care of business in games we should win. I know this is a very good (not great) team, and I am pretty confident that this team will be in the playoffs (though at this point, not as a division winner). But given the conditions going into the game yesterday, and the knowledge of what is coming up in the next two weeks, I have a hard time convincing myself that this team is championship material. Hopefully I'm wrong and the offensive line will straighten itself out and remember how to block, Sanchez will mature into a QB who can consistently keep defenses honest rather than daring him to try to beat them, and our defense will regain the swagger it had the last 2 years. If all three of these things happen soon then I could definitely see this team winning the SB. It sure does seem like a lot to ask though.
I love these days on the board. Hysteria at its best. Classic. One road loss to a good NFL team in their home opener and the franchise should be terminated. Were there some things to be worried about? yes. But its week freakin 3. The last 2 years if we have learned anything should be to not panic after every loss or get too crazy after every win. Everyone needs to chill. Damn......
great point,m one win over the ravens or the patriots and the jets are fine. they will win one of those games. has a team ever suffered from AFC championship game hang over? lol
Every great team has 'trap' games or unexpected losses. The Jets (along with the Pats) will absolutely bounce back.
I remember them finishing 9-7. Actually, I think this Buffalo team is a bit less fluky than that team but they still don't have the talent to win consistently over the course of an entire season. They might still finish with the same record but they're better than that team.
Guys, I really think that this loss in week 3 could fuck us for the whole year. I mean, the Raiders aren't even ranked, so it's going to be a horrible loss in the BCS standings. What? We're not a college team and even teams that win the Super Bowl usually lose 3-4 games a year? Oh, OK. So what's the big deal?
