Schotty killed us when Favre got hurt. You don't go to Seattle, with a premier offensive line but an injured QB, and try to throw the ball in the snow against the 18th ranked Rush defense.
Favre was supposedly hurt since October and he played his best football in November. I don't buy the injury excuse and the team allowed Brett to do what he wanted anyway.
End of the day I'm not opposed to him competing for the job against legit competition. If he wins it fair and square then he wins it but would most likely have a short leash. If he doesn't win the job then oh well. It says something to me though, that the actual players on the team have defended Sanchez and said its the lack of talent on the offensive side of things which is the problem. I've recalled cromartie saying that on a few occasions. Outside of an elite qb which there's only about 5 of in the league this situation last season would've been a no win situation for anyone involved. All that said, lets hope the competition brought in is solid decent competition
I expect we'll bring in a decent QB to compete, remember we can't spend a boatload so it will be a Matt Moore type of QB. mark will beat out a Matt Moore type or even a Crason palmer if he is released. My hope is Marty & lee can rehab Mark the way Harbaugh did w/ Smith.
2013 o's going to be the year of the Nacho. This is when he goes from being the Butt Fumble of Jokes, to Wyatt Earp. By week 6 the Sanchez bashers will be lining up to fellate Marty Mohrinweig. Write it down.
That would be a waste of a roster move. Matt Moore (and Flynn) are hot Garbage. The best bet here, is to let MM evaluate Sanchez, see what he thinks he can do with Tebow, and if neither answer is good....take a mid round flyer on a physical talent, the worst thing that happens in that case is you still have one of the most successful early QBs ever, a two time NCAA national champion, and a practice squad player.,, (nacho hater note...not only did he win four road playoff games...he was one of 5 to get to thirty wins in his time frame) Schottenheimer, Sparano, Gilyard, Gates, Reuland. Tell me how great they are, before you make your Sanchez point.
It's been awhile NYJunc, but I don't agree with you on something. If Carson Palmer is released and the Jets sign him to a reasonable deal, I think he will easily beat out Mark. Palmer has more experience than Sanchez and has played in the West Coast offense. He is far more accurate, protects the ball a little better and isn't prone to the panic throws Mark makes. Now, I am not suggesting that Palmer is some great QB right now, just that he has performed better than Sanchez the last two seasons under less than desireable circumstances in Oakland.
Not even close. If MM can do for Sanchez what he did for Vick, Sanchez beats Palmer. Nacho is young ( in relative football terms) and Palmer is old and that's life.
Sanchez is not going to beat anyone out. That's all there is to it. Anyone else suggesting otherwise is stupid.
we are allowed to disagree:up: Palmer had much more to work w/ this year and possibly even last year. Carson hasn't been the same since his injury in '05.
........in February of 2014: "Write it down.. now that Morningwood is finally gone, Sanchez will be tops in the league this season!"
Considering you guys don't take injuries into account doesn't last year show how good Schottenheimer was as the O got signficantly worse w/o him?
I think if Sanchez wins out in training camp and beats competition then I have no problem with him getting 1 more shot but he better EARN that 1 shot and if he does then the rest falls on him
Funny thing about this thread: The Cowboys will finish with a worse record than the hapless Jets in 2013. Any pathetic Tebow apologist starting this thread can wager money if she thinks that I'm wrong.
I really think you're underestimating how bad Sanchez is. Even when Vick was terrible pre MM, which was most of the time, his yards per attempt were better than Mark has sniffed in his best seasons. Even compared to Matt Moore, a reputed mop up guy, Sanchez best season doesn't stack up. I'm not saying Moore would be better, but I am saying that to date, Sanchez has yet to clearly outperform Moore. He's just been given a longer leash. I do think that Mohrinweig's system will provide Mark with a level of comfort that he's not had in previous offenses, but I'm not sure how much that will be good for. He still shows an utter absence of pocket awareness, and he's terribly inaccurate. -X-
It is called an example. Just because one OC is horrendous doesn't make another "good". But you know that, which was why you weren't being serious and neither was I.
There's a reason Rex stuck with Sanchez and that he's had full support from coaching for a while. The issues last year aren't just on him. I think if we provide him with a good supporting cast, he will take the next step, instead of the constant rotation of players we've had with Tannenbaum. This off season priority needs to be getting playmakers on offense... ones that can and will stick around.
