So all of the money we saved by cutting Mangold was used to keep Winters and Ijala. Subtraction by addition?
No. Winters is still improving. Ijalana is versatile and is insurance/depth. Would you rather the Jets go into the draft with not a single LT on the roster?
North to mention Wesley Johnson played good enough last year that Mangold became expendable at that salary.
Was literally just about to write this... Schefter said "teams have inquired" about Osweiler already...
I was hoping the Jets would pick up D.J. Fluker as our backup tackle/guard depth guy. He's two years younger, a bit taller and heavier, and far more experienced than Ijalana. He would have probably ended up as the starting RT. He'll probably sign for about the same money as Ijalana, or less.
Yup..... they wanted the pick... there trying to flip him for another pick..... if the don't get a trade, there going to release him
sorry, i had it wrong. the texans traded oswiler and their 2018 2nd round pick to cleveland the 2 teams will swap 4th and 6th round picks so in essence, the texans traded him away and gave up a pick just for the cap relief. the browns plan to release oswieler. shortly after the trade goes through the browns used their massive cap space to get an extra draft picks lol. it's an unprecedented trade and worse off goes to show how crazy the NFL is. Brock went from a top free agent last year and cashing in on a big contract after turning his back on denver to be so low the following year the browns don't want him
I thought as a first time HC, he did good his first year, but he couldn't keep the team on the same page in his 2nd, a definite step back. However, a lot of coaches have had this issue in the past. He has this year to really try and improve on those aspects and if he does I think that absolutely warrants an extension because you are seeing major progress. That's what this year is all about.
Yeah that's what we need to see. Can Bowles improve? That's what I am riding on, if he doesn't he should be let go and maybe Mac too if things don't go well. Go into 2018 new regime, new QB via draft.
With our new approach to free agency, perhaps we should also trade all of our 2017 draft picks for 2018 draft picks. The front office really seems to like most of the guys we had last year.
