Wow, I didn't realize Saleh's brother was in the WTC when it was hit, and managed to get out. That's quite a connection to this area for a guy from Dearborn. https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/06/06/robert-saleh-49ers-defensive-coordinator-arab-american
I don't want this to come off the wrong way, but Saleh just seems like such a better person than Gase. The kind of guy people want to follow.
Saleh is still at the facility. There’s been a Jets fan sitting in the bushes outside the facility since Saleh got there and he hasn’t left yet.
Yeah, from that same article, the guy has passion and everyone seems to like him. It's just a matter of whether or not he can actually be a head football coach in the NFL.
As someone else said he may well pick a Shanahan guy for OC, so I don't think the offense will be too bad off.
Saleh will be announced as the HC tomorrow, just my gut feeling. What interview questions could Douglas and Co possibly be asking this guy past midnight? This has contract negotiations written all over it.
Is Saleh the kind of coach who will hold his players accountable or is he a Gase/Bowles/Rex type who will want to maintain his popularity with them at the expense of seeing them give 100% on every play of every game? Accountability has been lacking in the Jets locker room since Mangini left town.
For anybody who's worried about Saleh not being the right guy and hoping his assistants are chosen properly, this video should make you feel a bit better. If he is the guy they choose, he definitely says the right things about what we're all hoping for as a CEO type, even if it's not all in him.
I thought this as well, this does seem like a bit of an over correction after Gase. Couple thoughts on Saleh - if he was really our #1 choice as Cimini indicated, how does he leave the facility tonight without being signed? I don't think he wants to visit more teams because Garafolo reported that it was seeming like the Jets were his only viable option. As someone else said though, why would Saleh be there so late if not for contract negotiations? There's a part of me that feels like JD wants a little more time to kick the tires on Pederson. I maintain that he would be the best choice we could make of the available candidates and I'm honestly a bit surprised at how head over heels a lot of people seem to be over Saleh. I get it, he's enthusiastic and led some great, dynamic defenses. I just think unless he brings over some great guys on the offensive side of things I'd be hesitant about it. I'm concerned the organization somehow still doesn't realize that having a great offense is the best way to compete for titles in the modern game. Pederson is a former QB who is known for being an innovative and aggressive guy on offense. Doesn't that sound like exactly what we need?
