Now we wait to see what we do about GM. And whether or not Mac or the new GM gets to pick the coach.

"GM Mike Maccagnan will work closely with Johnson on the search for a new head coach."

Basically, the Johnsons are clueless and are telling Mac to handle the coaching search. One can only hope that Casserly isn't in Mac's ear giving him advice on candidates. That would be the death nail. I'd almost rather retain Korn Ferry.

They will be working in tandem to find a head coach. This is essentially what every franchise does. There isn't an owner in the NFL that is not involved in the search for an NFL coach.

Mac is staying. I personally would've been fine if he got the boot as well but it is what it is.

Todd’s a great guy and a top dc in this league...he didn’t have what it takes to be a HC but that’s life. GL in the future and let’s hire the real deal

Ah gotcha thanks for clearing that up. I know people are relieved that Bowles is gone, but I am concerned about who is going to be our next coach.

Watch Chris Johnson hired Marvin Lewis or Mike Singletary as our next coach.

Casserly is the one that recommended Turd, but ultimately it was Woody who hired him. Mac wasn't involved in that at all. Casserly is a heck of a salesman and sometimes he's quite right (he was right about Darnold) but he also convinced Woody that Bowles isn't retarded. He did his idiot friend a solid. He got him a well paying job for 4 years. His friend burned down the office...but he was employed for 4 years

Casserly will not be involved in this decision.

Not to pile it on him, but what makes anyone think that any team would want Bowles as a head coach in the future. Totally expressionless on the sidelines, never knows whether to accept or decline a penalty, terrible clock management, no halftime adjustments, and lost double digit games his final 3 years. Oh, I know, he is good at mumbling "I'll have to watch the tape on that" loss after loss.

That a-hole was jumping shit on anyone who disagreed with his idiocy.

  11. I put MAC on Casserly more than Bowles.

Bowles was widely considered the top Candidate at that timeframe including over Quinn.

His resume read a mile long working his way up as a scout then coach after a successful playing career. His unique defensive scheme suggested he was a dynamic mind suited to be a HC.

What we learned is his resume was a mile long never getting the nod to become HC for a reason. He doesnt have the right mix of big picture foresight & attention to detail.

Yes--Not saying he won't be interviewed, my post asked why would any team hire him as a head coach? Never seen a coach SO uninvolved during a game. Never saw him chew out a player or ref during a game. And his loyalty to his incompetent def Coordinator was unacceptable, Bowles was more concerned with offending his friend and defensive coordinator than jets wins.

I don't get why it just never seems to work out for us. I am no fan of our ownership, but they have tried to get the right GM through many different means and they've all failed.

Tanny was a homegrown guy in our organization and he failed (other than when Mangini was here). He was obviously way too aggressive about trading away his picks and loved overpaying a few stars.

For Idzik Woody hired a "consulting agency" to find him. I believe it was the same one that another successful team used (the Seahawks?). Obviously other than managing the cap well, he couldnt draft for anything.

Then we clamored that Woody needs to bring in "football guys" to find the next GM and they did so with Mac.

    What are we doing wrong?

No surprise, but it doesn't mean much to me. Don't think anyone can convince me giving an extension (to avoid a lame duck GM situation and alienate high profile HC candidates) makes sense when the GM is just as much to blame for the past 4 years.

Macc just got keys to the kingdom, if he can secure a legitimate HC that can get more out of the players, great, but unless we start hitting on picks in rounds 1-4, this team isn't going to get fixed.

Owners who are as clueless about how to build a winning team as the Johnsons should find someone who DOES know how to build a winning team, hire him, and then get the hell out of the way. They know just enough, and meddle just enough to screw everything up. They desperately need a Pres. of Football Ops.

I can now exhale! I wasn't going to count on Bowles being gone until it was official. Now, go hire Jim Harbaugh!

We were fine until Woody made the dumbass decision to fire Tanny and keep Rex. After that, Woody fucked everything up. First he tried to force Rex on a GM, which limited the pool of GMs willing to take the job. Then he hired a consulting firm, which is dumb because the consulting firm doesn't care if they recommend a good candidate so long as they get paid. In 2015, he made the right decision to clean house. But hiring Casserly was dumb for the same reason as the consulting firm: Casserly has no skin in the game. The smart thing to do now is clean house again and personally pursue and make lucrative offers to the top candidates, i.e. Harbaugh, McCarthy, Riley, etc. But Chris is apparently like Woody in that he doesn't know how to make a decision on his own. So he's letting Mac pick the coach, and the cycle of dysfunction will continue because Mac won't pick a guy who will take power from him. Of course, Chris can feel free to prove me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

Best thing Rex & Bowles did as HC is go on a diet & loose weight...maybe M. McCarthy will be next, he could loose a few lbs
